Console Wars: The Card Game was announced last year by the creative team XboxEra. After a successful Kickstarter campaign that took in $42,000 (when converted to US dollars), it’s launched as a real retail product you don’t have to pledge to obtain. (Just so we’re clear, it has nothing to do with the book by Blake Harris or the miniseries that came from it. “Console Wars” is not a trademarked phrase.) In Console Wars: The Card Game, you and your friends play gluttonous AAA video game companies deep in the battle for market domination! First you must grab as many IPs as possible, for you won’t be able to attract fans (or fan cards, in this case) without them. Steal fans from your rivals by releasing new games, or play dirty by throwing down “Action Cards” that take over other studios or introduce PR scandals for your rivals. The first corporation to build four complete sets of Genre Cards is the winner. “;Console Wars’ is something the entire industry knows about, and actively dislikes,” says Jon Clarke, Co-founder of XboxEra. “So what if we took all that toxicity; all that online hate – and turned it into something positive and […]

Ah, Console Wars: The Card Game sounds like a fun twist on the competitive world of video game corporations! It's interesting to see how they've translated the battle for market dominance into a card game format. The mechanics of grabbing IPs, attracting fans, and playing dirty with Action Cards seem like they could create some intense gameplay moments.

It's always refreshing to see creative takes on well-known concepts, and I appreciate how XboxEra has turned a potentially negative theme into something fun and engaging. I wonder how they've balanced the gameplay to make sure it's both competitive and strategic.

Has anyone here tried Console Wars: The Card Game yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the gameplay mechanics, the balance between player actions, and how well it captures the essence of the industry competition. It definitely sounds like a game worth checking out for any gaming enthusiast! Let's dive into the strategy and fun of this new tabletop experience.

This is honestly such a fun idea. I’ve followed the XboxEra crew for a while now, and I like their attitude toward gaming. Turning console wars into something we can laugh at is the best way to deal with it. I hate how people online fight over what plastic box is better, and this game seems to make fun of all of that in a smart way. I also like that there are “Action Cards” to mess with other players. Games are always more exciting when you can throw surprises at your opponents. I’m going to order a copy and bring it to my next game night. We always enjoy trying new things, and this looks like it could be a hit with my group.

I think the game’s concept is okay, but I’m not sold on the execution yet. The industry satire sounds nice on paper, but I wonder how balanced the game is when it comes to actual play. Strategic games can fall apart if one tactic is too strong. Also, depending too much on cards like “PR scandals” might make the game feel repetitive or unfair. I need to see more about how it plays. Still, I respect what the creators are trying to do. Making a product that turns negativity into shared fun is admirable. If they support the game with updates or expansions, it could become something more interesting over time.

I’m not really into competitive card games, but this one looks kind of funny. I like that it’s based on something we all know—console wars have been going on forever. Even though I usually just play games for fun and don’t care about platforms, this game seems to joke about that drama. It could be fun to play with friends who always argue about PlayStation or Xbox. I might not buy it myself, but I’d try it if someone brought it to a party or a hangout.

As someone who works in game design, I find this project very interesting. The mechanics seem to follow familiar card game systems, but what stands out is the theme. Using the idea of corporate rivalry and fan obsession as a foundation is quite relevant. It invites both criticism and humor in equal parts. What I’m curious about is how balanced the gameplay loop is. If players can always “steal fans” or use heavy interference cards, the pacing needs to be carefully managed. From the creator’s statement, it’s clear they’ve spent time testing it, which is promising. I’d like to see the rulebook before passing full judgment, but I definitely respect the vision.
