City of Heroes: Going Rogue

For City of Heroes/Villains fans, today's the big day.

The second paid expansion, Going Rogue, went live for those who pre-ordered online yesterday and the boxed set, with all its lovely pre-order bonuses, hit stores today.

As someone who's been playing this game since almost the beginning, it will be interesting to see how this new dimension (both literally and figuratively speaking) changes things.

I honestly cannot think of any MMO before this where, purely using in-game content and not paying to change your race or anything like that, your character is able to swap allegiances the way you can go from hero-to-villain and back (or even just stay straddled between them if you want).

Anyone else excited?

I used to play, but I quit around the time that issue 9 7 came out due to lack of interest/being tired of the repetitive grind (yeah, I know it's an MMO). Has there been enough new/cool stuff to be worth taking another swing at it?

Umm... whoops. I lost track of this thread.

*Ahem* Anyway, to answer your question: Quite a bit!

Issue 7 was when City of Villains went live so after that was (in no particular order).

New Power Sets such as Shields, Dual Pistols, Demon Summoning, Kinetic Melee and Electric Control.

Several zones have been completely revamped, including the much maligned Faultline (it's no longer a Trial Zone, has a new, unique story arc and isn't a deserted wasteland anymore).

The Rikti have returned in full force, resulting in the Rikti War Zone also receiving a complete make-over and becoming a co-operative zone between heroes and villains as they stand united against the mutual threat. Not only that, but the Rikti have received a compete visual overhaul (they wear pants now!) and at times a Zone Event will occur where they try to take over a city zone with a massive attack.

Teaming up is also a hell of a lot easier now, thanks to the Super Sidekicking System. Where before, if you wanted to make a team with your friends in different level ranges, you had to juggle who was sidekicking who. Now, the game automatically brings everyone to the level of the team leader so they can do any story arc together.

There is also the Mission Architect, where players can create their own virtual story arcs, characters and new factions for other players to test themselves against.

And with Going Rogue, you now have the option of choosing a new starting faction (Praetorians) with their own sub-factions (Loyalists and Resistance) and the ability for your pre-existing hero and villain characters to undertake story arcs where they can switch sides (or become Vigilantes or Rogues, which are basically in-between the two).

So... yeah, a lot.
