I enjoyed the finale alot. The dramatic music was really good and I wish the entire series was like this. Shougo, could you explain the entire finale to me and why Shougo Kuroiwa was shot. Damn, one of those times you really need subs haha.

So the finale was just Akira making up the story and then the final battle doesn't even happen? Was the show cancelled at this point or something?.

I was wondering the entire time where I saw Shougo Kuroiwa before, wasn't he in Kamen Rider Agito?.

The only things that kept me watching was Jiro Okamoto. I was not impressed with Akira/Asakura's acting at all. It seemed forced and it looked like he was ALWAYS fucking smiling. I'll take Asakura Takeshi over Akira anyday.

Overall it was a decent series and definatley worth the watch. Major props to Shougo for linking me with the MANY missing episodes. :buttrock:

That episode was really a spoof on all of the tokusatsu cliches, from the cowboy outfit to Akira's playing the Changerion OP on the trumpet, giving the old speeches, introducing himself, Rui being crucified, calling out attack names and so on. My favorite part is the Darkzide of the week, who was obsessed with Changerion and being a hero, trying to teach him to improve and pointing out that "when you see a kid crying on the side of the road, you stop and help them!" The whole episode was all really the show sticking their tongue out at the people who complained that Changerion was too weird and unconventional or that Akira was unlike a tokusatsu hero...

why Shougo Kuroiwa was shot.

Having already becoming governor, he then took over Japan to become its new emperor and take control over humans. Part of his agenda was to eliminate humans who he thought were weak and worthless; one boy witnessed his father being killed (by Jiro Okamoto), knowing Kuroiwa was responsible for it all. He tracked him down and shot him.

There's interpretations on the finale. They knew the show was cut short, but still managed to find a clever way to wrap up the series, IMO. Some people think the finale is just a contrast being "light" and "dark" -- the light side's the one we've watched all along, a flighty Akira who was more occupied with his detective agency and saw being Changerion as a more minor obligation compared to that. The contrast was the "dark" version, where being Changerion completely consumes Akira's interest, he's made it his life rather than just an obligation and everything's warped.

I think the finale is writer Toshiki Inoue flipping the naysayers of the show the bird. Changerion may not look too out of place for viewers now, but back at the time is was quite a departure for tokusatsu. The low budget, being shot on video, the quirky characters and stories, the way it avoided a lot of the tokusatsu cliches, focusing on a flighty hero rather than a stern Miyauchi type; it was very unconventional. A lot of the criticism was how goofy Akira was, how unhero like he was, that he saw being Changerion as a bit of nuisance. This resulted in episode 30 (The Hero's Teacher) and the finale, IMO...

My interpretation of the finale was to show what Changerion would have been like had it actually been like a regular tokusatsu show. Removing all quirkiness, taking away everything that made it unique, making Akira just an overly dedicated hero, it turned the show into...just about every other tokusatsu show ever made. Been there, done that.

Yeah, as Sawaki/the real Shouichi. He also popped up in Faiz and Kabuto.

It wasn't that Hagino's a poor actor, because he's not. It was a choice he made for Akira that I think worked. Making Akira smile at inappropriate moments was all part of the character being frivolous or giddy. I think Akira's the better character and performance -- there was more to the Akira character, Hagino was able to explore more. Asakura was cool at the start, but the character went nowhere and Hagino was really restrained.

On the opposite side of you, I really wasn't impressed by what Okamoto did with Changerion. He just really wasn't appropriate.

I agree about Jiro, but it was still good to have him in action.

Question though, if this series is from 1996, also when B-F Kabuto aired that means Jiro pulled over time doing Changerion & Death Scorpion stunts, no?.
