Chen Guokun is Bruce Lee!

The fact that it's another Chinese corporate money-magnet designed to cash in on Lee's popularity with overdramatized fabrications and lackluster fights that don't even exemplify the man's own beliefs. C'mon people, Bruce Lee's life was not that interesting... if they made a factual, faithful adaptation, no one would want to watch it. And I for one, no matter how invested in martial arts and HK cinema I am, will not sit back and jerk it to all these faux-tributes that are designed solely to appease the average A.D.D. popcorn viewers with no stock in his legacy (no offense). You want to pay tribute to the man? Watch his movies; buy his books; write Linda a nice letter... retellings? We don't need no stinkin' retellings!

Dude... who cares.
Let people have their fun.

I would be more interested if they took this guy and attempted to make Game of Death as Bruce Lee intended it to be. Not re-using any existing footage like the horrible jokes that have been made before, but rather building a complete film accurate to Bruce Lee's original concepts, plot and visions for how the film should be. Basically something that would keep/share the same tone and atmosphere of the existing footage.

I guess they could do that with any actors really. It would just kind of cool if they did it with this fellow. Heck, maybe it's already been done and I've been too blind to notice.

Ah... I see. I do see what you're talking about, but alas deer Bolt... those are no good reasons except for holding to snobbery.

I am not a deer!

All I'm saying is that Bruce Lee should be celebrated for the things he taught and achieved, not just for making "kar-a-tee" and ninjas pop culture masturbation targets. Maybe it's just that Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story was so eyeball-bleachingly painful to watch that I don't want to have to witness the effects of another badly crafted and completely irreverent chop socky romp on a society that doesn't even appreciate the man or genre past the idea of a bunch of Chinks punching each other. I don't think it's fair to call me uptight per se, as I don't see what's so different about all of you vomitting in your mouths about the remake of Enter The Dragon but being unprecedentedly and perplexingly excited about something else of an even more insulting nature just because it has "Bruce Lee" in it. I'm as relaxed and (sometimes disadvantageously) carefree as anyone else, but certain things yank on my ol' pain chain and this is one of them.

People didn't like Fists of Legend??? That's the Enter-- wait, I'm thining of Fists of Fury.

What Enter the Dragon remake?

And I don't mean to point fingers or whatever, B. Apologies, but still... people love the legend and legacy of Bruce Lee. I've seen just the evocation of his name bring brightness to eyes and smiles to faces.

By all accounts, this show sounds like a boat load of fun and good the celebrates what we love most that he introduced us to and maybe some education in there as well.

What Enter the Dragon remake?

Somebody posted a link a few weeks ago about a "gritty, dark, film-noir esque" Enter The Dragon remake done by one of the guys that worked on The Shield or something, and I was like the only person that didn't hate it, so I take exception to your snobbery comment, thank you very much. *nose way up in air*

As for Fist of Legend... people loved it, but for the incredible action. You could do a surrealist animated musical remake of Shindler's List and if it had awesome fight scenes people would eat it up. For whatever reason, when it comes to Bruce Lee movie remake, people (even preaching purists!) tend to like the most far-removed from the originals the best, but that's just kind of a random observation and isn't connected to what we've been talkin' bout.

I think it will be a good thing to have this series not just for us fanboy's of Bruce but for it's intended purpose. Which is not 'money' (though I'm sure tons will be made) but as a cultural showcase for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Also this may be as accurate a documentary as we are going to get about Lee's life. You can read why I say this by reading the link below:

Lee Families participation in the series

If the information at this site is to be believed then I am all in. Of course we only have the views of his wife and daughter not his other family members from China. But still that does make up some of the most exciting periods in Lee's life.

Also I take exception to Lee's actual life being 'not that interesting'. His life was far from it. From his early beginnings as a child actor, to his teens where he was sent to America by his parents fearing he would get killed for beating up the son of a Triad gangster. How can one say that someone as dynamic and energetic as Lee would have a boring life? I just don't think that makes sense. I could probably name at least 10 instances I've read of from people who had intimate knowledge of Bruce's life that could easily be put to film. Sure not every waking moment of his life was an out and out fight scene but I am sure there is more than enough for 40 hours of televison.

My fear is the production cost is kinda low at just over 6 million to do the project. Unless it's really cheap to film in China? Dunno.

Just to seeing Chen Guokun speak english (they are filming in the USA also) would be enough for me to at least casually want to see it when it airs.

I for one will be looking forward to it it's been a while since I have seen Mark Dacascos in anything in a while I hope he got casted as Dan Inosanto. That would be great.

Sorry Bolt I see your point but I don't agree.

No one said you have to, just don't hold your breath expecting it to be a quality production.
