I'd hope it'd be something more akin to the classic anime than what the movie was but with a name like "sins" I kind of doubt it.

At least Casshern LOOKS like Casshern, and not the Matrix in white rubber tights and oversized faceguard!

But I hope this new anime is at least exciting.

Believe me, you're not alone in thinking this. Although the movie had some pretty good visuals and fight scenes, the plot just made no sense and it didn't feel anything like Casshern at all.

Casshern was created by the late Tatsuo Yoshida (Speed Racer, Gatchaman, etc.) in 1973. It's similar to Masked Rider, only the hero doesn't change (but has an awesome removable helmet!), and has a super-cool transforming robot dog! The bad guys are an army of military robots gone wrong from a thunderstorm.

They were trying to be "realistic," because a cool costume was considered "campy." (But they try to balance this with a bit of fanservice in one scene, with a collection of Yoshida-created heroes' helmets, including Casshern's and Speed Racer's.) As a result, Casshern looked nothing like the character. It's just the Matrix in white rubber tights and oversized faceguard.

Heh, if it's any consolation, this film got voted in second place of Japan's Razzie Awards (behind Devilman).
