Captain America = Leonardo DiCaprio?

So we're really going to turn down an oscar caliber actor for this role because he doesn't look buff enough? Come on, guys. If that was true:

This guy

could never play him:

Or this dude:

Oh, and him?

Dude's too tall and good looking to play him:

Oh, and this dude:

is definitely too scrawny to ever play this guy:

So yes, in real life, no one could ever build up the muscle mass to look like this:

Should they really base the casting on that? Or should they go with a proven actor, who's incredibly good, and who would bring more people to the movie theatre? I would think the choice is obvious.

Most of the time it's near impossible to pair up a comic book character's appearence to a real life person. I mean, statistically Hugh Jackman's height and weight aren't proportionate to Wolverine, who's about 5'3'' and about 200 lbs because of the adamantium in his skeleton. But Hugh took on the role and ran with it.

call me crazy, but I think the late Heath Ledger would have made a good Cap.

I've been wracking my brain trying to think of other good candidates, but it's not easy. With the right person, Cap could be really great.

I think Leo is a great actor and I've enjoyed most if not all of his movies in some way, but I don't necessarily see him as being a good Captain America. This may not sound nice, but I just don't think he's manly enough. The person playing cap won't be *huge* because they're just aren't that many massive people in hollywood, but the actors voice should still at least have some pretty good bass to it.

Exactly what I was saying. If you cast a movie based on looks rather than acting, you're doomed before you start.

And if Dicrapio is concerned acting is one of his weak points

J/K the guy has done a fair job but like action hero stars he seems to play the same angsty arty guy in every single movie he's been in.

Watch Catch if me you Can, Man in the Iron Mask, and The Aviator and get back to me. :)

Seriously, I understand guys, when we were ten-twelve we had to hate the guy on principle since all the girls at the time liked him. But now that we're mature and stuff, we can be more objective, and he's a damn fine actor.

Okay I just find him as a poor man's Johnny Depp. I honestly can't say he totallly unable to pull off a movie. But he's just too pretty boy for me to see him as a rock hard soldier. Maybe for the pre-serum Rogers scene though.

Brad Pitt has been mentioned before and Heath actually was rumored.

They f*in' serious, Leon Dicaprio as the Living Legend himself?!

But Brad Pitt!? HELLLL NO, he doesn't actually fit the description of Cap or Thor.

Sometimes Directors pick an actor based on their acting style and quality not if their descriptions match the character. Sometimes for better (ex. Incredible Hulk) or for worst (Batman & Robin)
