Norton and Marvel couldn't agree on certain things. Norton even contributed to writing "The Incredible Hulk"

Ruffalo was booed at last year's comic con since he was replacing Norton. AFTER already recasting Hulk from the 2003 movie with Norton (2008)

That and Terrance Howard demanding more money and recasting him with Don Cheadle, are the only sore spots in Marvel Studio's dream of making the avengers movie.

Norton had issues with Marvel Studios while filming The Incredible Hulk, in his contract, he was granted "creative control" over the writing, which is why he added a lot of scenes with Bruce Banner struggling with his power and holding the Hulk inside him back, even to the point of Bruce Banner attempting to commit suicide (IIRC, this was one of the deleted scenes with him in the sea with glaciers, having Captain America's frozen body as a cameo). Marvel didn't want Bruce Banner to have too much time that it would lessen Hulk's scenes, which is why they removed most of what Norton has made to make Hulk's appearance earlier than the original plan. Hulk was their selling point after all...

If you ask me though, I blame Marvel Studios since they have weird managing techniques.

Wow, I see. I can understand add-libing..but enough creative control to do some writing? That's generous.

Anyways that was sour spot for me as well...I never like when actors have disputes with the any member of the crew.

I mean Terrence...really? As if he doesn't have enough money..it's a shame because i REALLY liked him as Rhodey and was looking forward to him becoming War Machine. Don was good..but lacked a bit of flavor.

My understanding is that 2 factors led to Howard getting his ass booted off of IM2:

1) He was first actor signed onto IM1 and negotiated higher pay than any of the other actors in the film. Including Downey. When it came time to do a sequel, they were offering him a significantly smaller role and significantly smaller pay. He declined, and all of a sudden Cheadle is announced to be the new Rhodey.

2) Apparently they weren't happy with his performance in a bunch of scenes which required alot of extra work in the editing room to fix it.

Personally I side with Howard on the whole thing. I'd be miffed too about getting a cut role and cut pay. I don't know if it was the right choice, but I understand where he's coming from.

Terrence Howard would have made a bad ass War Machine, but Don Cheadle was pretty good as the replacement.

In all honesty, I liked Don Cheadle's Rhodey better.

Quark I would be on his side also, depending how much they cut though...Anyone have a guess?

I've always heard that they cut scenes even while filming. Howard and the director apparently had issues from the start, so parts actually had to be rewritten.

My bad for not being clear, I meant the pay cut. Didn't know about the controversy from the start though.

That's a personal thing no one will probably know.

The trade says Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons.

Howard wanted a bigger raise but Marvel lowballed him and got someone cheaper(Cheadle)

Marvel also messed around with Iron Man 2 and made it into an Avenger's set up movie.

No surprise that Jon Faverau isn't coming back for Iron Man 3.

Unhappy With Iron Man 2, Jon Favreau Wanted To Direct The Avengers; Marvel Said No?

On the story of Iron Man 2 having to be a major puzzle piece for The Avengers, Cinemablend says "Iron Man 2 wasn’t the movie Jon Favreau wanted to make. Marvel interfered heavily with his work on the movie and turned the project into an infomercial for The Avengers. Favreau felt the movie was rushed into production (and if you followed the development process you know it was) and they pushed him into making it without a fully realized script. Iron Man 2 wasn’t the movie he wanted to make and because of that, if there’s an Iron Man 3, there’s every reason to think he won’t be back. Marvel doesn’t want to pay him and Favreau may not want to deal with more Marvel interference.

Going for the cheap hire, lowballing the talent and overall studio interference.

Did you want War Machine to sound like a girl?
