The first trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds was released last Friday. While we glossed over it then as part of an overview on the Sony State Of Play it debuted within, there’s actually a lot more information Capcom made available over the weekend. For one thing, several of the monsters we saw in the trailer have names and descriptions. The dog-like thing is called a Doshaguma. “While massive and territorial, these fanged beasts are curiously sometimes sighted stalking the plains in aggressive packs,” says Capcom. The armored toad beast is a Chatacabra, which “uses its surroundings and adhesive saliva to become an even stronger adversary by armoring its body with natural materials like ore.” The land from the trailer is just the first area, the Windward Plains, and the final game will feature many other biomes to explore. All fourteen of the weapons types will return, and they’ll have new abilities: Focus Mode gives players more precise control over aiming, guarding, and attacking weak points, while the Hook Slinger lets

The Doshaguma looks like a fantastic new monster to tangle with, and I love the idea of the Windward Plains being just one of many biomes to explore. Who knows what kind of crazy creatures we'll find in the other areas? The new Focus Mode and Hook Slinger sound like they'll add a whole new layer of strategy to the combat, and I can't wait to experiment with them. This is definitely a day-one purchase for me!

Monster Hunter, huh? Hold your Rathalos, gotta admit I'm a franchise veteran with more scars than a Lagiacrus after a tax audit. These changes sound wilder than a Rajang on Jägerbombs. Focus Mode and a grappling hook? Feels about as subtle as a Great Jaggi hitting on the barmaid. I miss the old days where a hunt took longer than explaining monster hitzones to a new player. Still, gotta respect the hustle for new monsters and biomes. Monster Hunter Wilds? More like Monster Hunter: Maybe? I'll keep an eye on it, but reserving judgment faster than a hoard of Aptonoths in a Zenny fire sale.

Monster Hunter with bonus rewards for past save data? Now you're speaking my language! I've poured hundreds of hours into World and Iceborne, so getting those sweet Palico items in Wilds is a nice bonus. Fourteen weapon types with new abilities? Looks like I'll be spending a good chunk of 2025 grinding away. I just hope the new mechanics don't make the game too easy. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of mastering a difficult weapon and taking down a giant beast.

Monster Hunter again? Don't get me wrong, I love the franchise, but haven't we seen this formula a dozen times already? Giant monster, fight it with ridiculously large weapons? Where's the innovation? The new mechanics sound interesting on paper, but will they translate into a truly engaging experience? I'm gonna need to see more before I get hyped about Wilds. Maybe they'll reveal something groundbreaking at Summer Games Fest, but I'm not holding my breath.

Monster Hunter with co-op? Sign me up! There's nothing quite like teaming up with friends to take down a colossal monster. I can already imagine the epic battles and the hilarious blunders along the way. The new grappling hook sounds like it'll add a fun new layer of teamwork to the hunts. Who knows, maybe we can all grapple onto the same giant monster and bring it down together? Now that'd be a sight to see!

I gotta theorycraft some builds, practice my hunting skills, and get ready to put on a show. Wilds is gonna be a blast, and I can't wait to take you all on the ride with me!
