The end of the Physical Video Store?

It's only a matter of time before all Brick-and-Mortar stores become extinct with services like Netflix or Gamefly that offer the same things, but for longer and in some cases Instantly anywhere you are.

Even those Automatic Kiosks you see in Grocery Stores and Mall's do more business than Rental stores these days...

This is the end of an era.

With Netflix and Redbox, Blockbuster was doomed anyways.

There's a few family video stores left. Besides that it's either Netflix or Redbox.

Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery/Game Crazy recently went belly up, Next is Blockbuster, who will close all but the most profitable stores......

I'm sure even ma and pop stores are struggling to stay in the black.

Now i'm a old fogey, i don't use Netflix or any other kind of service because i like to support my local store (Dispite the fact they don't carry any blu-rays and still rent VHS and Beta-Max), but i might not have a choice in future......

DON'T!!!

Keep it as a memory, damn it! I plan on to keep my blockbuster membership card as a memory and treasure as well. In the past, I used to go to blockbuster a lot, but now I don't.

I now more fond of RedBox than ever. Very cheap. My grandmother agree.

They are not all closing up.
About 800-1000 stores will be, but not all of them (right away anyway).

Why Blockbuster's Bankruptcy Could Be Bad for Seattle-Based Redbox

You'd think the news that Blockbuster -- that relic from a bygone era when you actually had to talk to people in order to rent a movie -- is likely filing for bankruptcy in September would mean good things for Redbox. The DVD vending machine company has been taking bites out of Blockbuster's business one $1 movie at a time for years. Now, along with Netflix, it finally seems to have devoured the beast. But could this actually be a bad thing for the Bellevue-based company?
