best buy return question

I would think they're return policy is on the back of the reciept and also on their website.

Usually stores will only exchange software for the same exact title.

does best buy return games when they are open? like out of the packaging?

Here's what you can do:

You can go to the best buy, w/ ur reciept, and say that the game did not work for your system. What they will then do is do an exchange for a brand new one. What you do after that is take the brand new game to ANOTHER store, and simply return it there for a refund. It does work, and this is coming from a former Best Buy employee

Keep in mind though that you HAVE to have your receipt with you from when you originally bought it. Without it you're likely going to be SOL.

actually i purchased game shark for ps2 for import games but it didnt so i took it back to them opened and they give me a refund because i had the receipt.

it's really cool with their return policy, because most stores wont take back any opened games.

It really does depend on the Best Buy store's employees. ;) Some store employees are very strict to follow the store's return policies, some are not.

The worst thing that they can do is exchange the item for the exact item. If the game is not currently in stock then they'll give you store credit (gift card) with the amount owed to you. They will not give you cash back or refund the money. The reason is that games can be copied and an opened piece of software or video game = a possible copied video/game/music cd. Oh and some employees will go so far as to remove the new exchanged item's wrapping so you can't return that. If the person doesn't then take the exchange and hold on to it another day and return it for a full refund.

As for Misfit's comment about returning it to another store. Other stores - meaning you buy from Best Buy and try to return to Walmart, Target, etc - is that they will not return it for a cash refund. Target's policy is without a receipt you only can exchange or get store credit (gift card). Walmart is similar however there is a chance they will exchange it for cash if you provide them with your drivers license #. When stores require your license #, they're putting you into a database and after three returns without a receipt, you'll be banned from making any further returns from ANY of their stores.

That's actually not what I was referring to. I was referring to going to another best buy and returning it. Here's my little story:

I had purchased Doctor Who series 1 when it originally came out. A week after I got it, I had lost the plastic sleeve that went over it. So, what I did was I waited for it to go on sale, picked up another copy, kept it sealed(in case it didn't work out). I went to a Best Buy, told them that one of the dvds wasn't working. He let me exchange it for a brand new one. What I then did was go to a different BB a few days later and returned the brand new one I exchanged for a cash refund. Worked like a charm. But yeah, you really can't buy something from Circuit City and expect to return it and get a refund at Best Buy.

There is only one in my local area. The next "closest" one is 67 miles away, after that it's over 120 miles.
