Are "One-Shot" RPGs the Best Way to Introduce New Players?

I've been thinking about this a lot recently. With so many amazing one-shot RPGs out there, like *Honey Heist*, *The Quiet Year*, and even classic *D&D* one-shots, I feel like they make an awesome entry point for newcomers. It's less pressure for everyone involved, a solid way to test the waters, and there's no long-term commitment.

A lot of seasoned players might get into complex campaigns and deep lore, but for new folks, a one-shot gives them a chance to learn the basics while still having a ton of fun in a shorter time frame. Plus, you get to explore different systems without the daunting commitment of a full campaign.

What do you all think? Are one-shots the best way to hook new players, or do you have other tactics you've found success with? Share your favorite one-shots or experiences bringing new players into the fold!

One-shots can indeed be a glorious way to usher new players into the realm of tabletop RPGs! I completely agree that they take away the pressure of long-term commitment while still offering a thrilling experience. Games like Honey Heist are fantastic for showcasing how fun and flexible RPGs can be without getting into the deep lore right away.

However, I also think there's merit in a short campaign that introduces newcomers gradually. A scenario that builds over a few sessions can allow them to get accustomed to character development, mechanics, and tactics on a deeper level. It's like a Klingon ship preparing for battle, starting with a small crew before taking on the larger missions.

What's your favorite one-shot experience that you think worked particularly well for new players? Qapla'!
