If you’re here and you haven’t watched the Stranger Things 5 half-season yet, what have you been doing all Thanksgiving weekend? Eating things and playing outside? Stop that! The longer you wait to see the first half of Stranger Things 5, the harder it’s going to be to avoid spoilers. Most of the major headlines we’ve been seeing lately are already addressing specific twists. You want to get these from the show itself, not from outside of it. The two biggest bombshells came, as you might expect, from the last few minutes of the last available episode. Addressing the bigger one first, yes, Will just did that, but no, it’s not QUITE what it looks like. He’s got nosebleed powers now, but they’re not of the same breed as what El’s got. The Duffers explain it in a Variety article: “He taps into the hive mind, and then he can manipulate anything within the hive,” says Matt Duffer. “You’ll see how far he can take it as you continue to watch. But that’s how he’s able to manipulate the monster. So he can’t open a door, because the door is not part of the hive mind.” He re-emphasized that it’s […]

I feel mixed about Will’s new ability. I like that it finally gives him something active to do, since he spent so much of the earlier seasons suffering without much control. At the same time, I worry the “proximity” rule will limit him too much. It feels like the writers are trying to balance giving him power without making him too strong. I also think this sets up a lot of emotional weight for him, because he has always been connected to the Upside Down in a painful way. Now he has something that can help the others, but it still depends on him returning to a place that traumatized him. About Kali, I hope they actually give her a clearer role this time. Her first appearance felt disconnected from everything. Bringing her back is risky, but if they wrote her with more focus, she could work. I want to see if she is more stable now or if she still wants revenge. The season seems to be building toward a messy mix of alliances and grudges, and she might complicate everything.

When Will’s nosebleed started, I honestly thought they were making him another version of Eleven. I’m relieved it is different. The idea of him controlling the hive mind feels logical since he already had that connection in Season 2. I’m interested in how the group will use this without putting him in too much danger. Will deserves a win after everything he has gone through. As for Kali, I never hated her, but I did think her episode was too far from the main story. Maybe this time she will blend better with the rest of the cast. I’m curious if she will get along with Eleven or argue with her again.

You know guys, I am glad they are finally following up on Will’s link to the Upside Down. It always felt strange to ignore that after Season 3. His new ability could make the final fight more strategic. He will not be a fighter like Hopper or Eleven, but he can shape the battlefield itself. That sounds interesting to me. I am not sure how I feel about Kali returning. I did not mind her attitude before, but the tone of her old episode did not fit. If they adjusted her personality a little, maybe she can add something useful now.

I think Will getting powers is overdue. He was always tied to the monster in a way the others were not, so this direction makes sense. The limit of distance feels like it prevents him from becoming too strong, and it keeps tension high. I hope they show him learning how to use it, not just suddenly mastering it. With Kali, I am open to seeing where they take her. The actress sounds excited, and that gives me some hope. Maybe she will be a troubled mentor figure for Eleven.

For me, Will’s new ability feels like the writers are correcting something they left unresolved for years. It does not feel forced at all. It makes the story bigger but still grounded in what we already know. The detail about not being able to open real-world objects is helpful, because it explains why he cannot just solve everything on his own. I think the biggest question now is whether he can handle the mental stress of using it. The hive mind has hurt him before. As for Kali, I hope they show her with more emotional depth. Her old version felt like she was trying too hard to be tough.

I was surprised they brought back Kali, but I think it is the right move. Ignoring her forever would feel incomplete. I hope she is calmer this time, because her old version felt too aggressive for no clear reason. If she works with the group instead of isolating herself, I think she can be interesting. Will’s new ability is more exciting to me though. I want to see how Jonathan reacts, since he has always been protective.

Will’s new power is cool, but I do not want it to define him too much. He is more than the boy the monster targeted. I want him to grow as a person too, not just as a tool for the plot. The limit on distance makes his scenes more dangerous, and that might push him emotionally. Kali coming back surprised me, but if her personality is different now, maybe it will change the way people view her.

I think Will getting hive mind control is a strong addition to the story. It connects past events with the present in a smooth way. I want to see whether he can use it without Vecna sensing him. That would be an interesting weakness. Kali returning is something I did not expect the show to actually do, but I am glad they addressed her. Even if people disliked her episode, she is still part of Eleven’s history.

It feels strange knowing we are already in the final stretch. I grew up with these characters, and seeing Will finally step into an important role makes the ending feel even heavier. I am happy he has something meaningful to contribute, but part of me wishes it happened earlier so we could spend more time with this version of him. Kali also returning reminds me that the show is trying to wrap up everything before it closes, and that makes me emotional. I am not ready to say goodbye yet.
