Animated henshin: your thoughts?

i've only ever seen a few anime shows that are quite on the same level as real toku and sentai, but i was wondering what all you toku-masters think about it? i dont know how many of you have seen 'tekkaman blade' (otherwise known as 'teknoman'), but it carries many of the same themes and plot devices as tokusatsu. in fact, as i watched the 50 ep anime about a young man named 'D-boy' who, when he calls 'Tek-setta!!,' changes into Tekkaman Blade to battle the evil invading Radam and other tekkamen/woman, i couldnt help but think how cool it would be if it were live action. so, i guess i'm just wondering if you folks have any thoughts about toku-like anime vs. true toku (i know you like real toku better, though ^_^), and whether the two of them have a possible future of co-existence...

I saw the Tekkaman dub back in the day, and I used to think it was pretty cool. As far as 'henshin' anime goes, don't forget Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, aka Battle of the Planets or G-Force. That show is as responsible for the creation of Super Sentai as GoRanger, if not more so.

Also, be sure to check out Special Duty Task Force Shinesman. It's a 2 episode anime parody of the whole Sentai genre, and it's absolutely hilarious. The dub is even funnier, since the cast did such an excellent job and the writers wove a lot of humor into the dialogue, which is pretty rare in slapstick heavy Japanese humor. I highly recommend it.

There's also a fanserviced filled anime called VIRUS which is heavily influenced by Sentai.

Done by that wacky guy who brough us the Fatal Fury Trilogy Masami Obari.

There is also, of course, the Kikaida anime, which is actually pretty damn good.

There is Ultimate Girls which is a parody of tokusatsu, mainly Ultraman. There's a henshin joke in like ep 2 I think, where you get an extremely far away view of the henshin like it's from a satellite or something and there's a progress bar and an arrow pointing to where the character should be, lol.

Oh yeah! Somehow that totally slipped my mind, even though it seems obvious now. I enjoyed that show quite a bit.

i'd heard of the Virus show before, but i've never seen it. and of course there's kikaider, and (Mega Ranger would kick me if i didn't mention it), the video game based Vewtiful Joe, which is like a big old tribute to anything with "henshin" in it. joe's phrase is even "henshin a go-go, baby!" but i think that it's cool to see it animated sometimes. then again, with the recent imporvement with live action graphics, things like casshern and even the more recent kamen rider shows are excellent - they can achieve things now that weren't really possible to do well outside of anime and manga only 10 years ago

Well I`m not so sure on that Gatchaman thing. In 1963 the precursor to sentai Cyborg 009 first came on the scene. And three years later you have
Rainbow Sentai Robin in 1966.

The henshin itself is a running gag. Ugh. :redface2:

I'll wait for the day they actually do a "legit" Kamen Rider anime...SUPER DEFORMED DOESN'T COUNT!!!
