All Tokusatsu: Do you know this?

In the list you forgot Kamen Rider Shin

This is a toku comedy series that is still airing in Japan, with a sequel on the way!

But good enough for anyone.

To support Jared's post, tokusatsu is short for "tokushu satsuei" ("special photography"). It's also called "tokshu gijutsu" ("special techniques"), or "tokugi" for short. Eiji Tsuburaya was a "tokugi kantoku" ("director of special effects" or "director of special techniques"). Same way that Ray Harryhausen was credited for "Technical Effects" in The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. And the list goes on.

So, really, the Japanese have always used it as the term for special effects ("SPFX" or "SFX"). In Japan, it applies not only to domestic SPFX productions, but foreign ones like Doctor Who, Star Trek, Lost in Space, Star Wars, Superman, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, The Matrix, etc. Americans would use the term to label Japanese SPFX productions.

It's not meaningless.

To me, it's things that tend to have that Japanese influence or likeness or it makes you think 'Tokusatsu' as more then just a definition but a brand all it's own.

This is more of the stuff that I like to find:

Lion Maru! I think there are few series, or maybe just one. There's also Zebraman, but it's a movie. Oh, [HIDE]and commented! [/HIDE]

There are three Lion Maru series, Kaiketsu Lion Maru, Fuun Lion Maru, and Lion Maru G.

Annnnd that Dogu girl show finished airing last year, the sequel's the one that will be on the air this year.
