Oh no! Humanity was doomed as it was, but now the Xenomrph is adapting…changing…LEARNING. Soon it’ll be completely unstoppable. That is unless your TTRPG friends can find a way to stop it. Alien: The Roleplaying Game is approaching its fifth birthday, and Free League is celebrating with a new Evolved Edition of the game. This version will contain new artwork, new content, and a variety of new tools to use, including a Solo Mode. At the same time it will retain compatibility with the previous version of the game. Here’s what’s in store for your crew: A bold new look and feel to the Core Rulebook, with all new page layouts by Johan Nohr (of MÖRK BORG fame), new interior maps and artwork, and a stunning new core book cover by renowned artist Colm Geoghegan (Creepy Duck Design); Revised and expanded core rules for talents, stress and panic, and stealth; Revised combat rules for armor, ammo, grenades, stuns, skirmishes, and spaceships; New iconic weapons, items, ships, and locations from the hit film Alien: Romulus; Various new rules and tools in high demand from players, including zero gravity, miniatures play support, and expanded campaign play; And last but not least, Last […]

This is precisely what I was looking for! I enjoy Alien: The Roleplaying Game, but I've always thought the rules for stress and panic might be more polished. Plus, a Solo Mode? That's a game changer. I can already envision myself rushing across a sinking ship, attempting to survive against an evolving Xenomorph. Free League understands how to commemorate a milestone.

Solo mode is what got my attention. Not everyone has a group that can consistently meet up, so this is a fantastic addition. If it’s anywhere near as good as Ironsworn’s solo system (since Shawn Tomkin is involved), this could become one of my go-to TTRPGs. I’m really curious how they handle the tension of an Alien story without a GM.

What interests me the most is the expanded campaign play. One-shots are fun, but I always wished for deeper long-term storytelling in Alien. Hopefully, this means better ways to build suspense and character development over multiple sessions instead of just throwing more Xenomorphs at players.
