A Blast into the Past with Amazon

I have episodes 1-4 (I have the VCD's but for some reason, they can't be ripped.) I upped them a long time ago on Rangerboard.

Why the Amazon hate? Certainly Super One, RX, Faiz and Hibiki suck a lot harder.

I liked Amazon in that it actually tried to be different than the previous Riders. No escapin' right before Shocker removes their brain, no depending on the Riders of old to save his ass (although they could have probably saved the ratings). Rippin' your villains apart, how much cooler is that than blowing them away with a trumpet?

I think his suit is pretty cool, too, but...that bike. Damn it if that's not the ugliest bike that a Kamen Rider has ever had the disgrace of riding. Also, I hated that ugly-ass monster he chose to make friends with. The one with the sunflower sticking out of its mouth. Who in their right mind would make such a design!?!

I think Okazaki has aged well, though. I've been wondering what he looks like now. He's certainly better off than Ryou Hayami or Shigeru Araki. Time's also on Hiroaki Murakami's side...

I always wondering if Okazaki was bothered by being in Amazon, because for a good part of the series, his dialogue isn't any more than shouting "A~ma~zo~n!"
It's not that it's that bad, it's just that people are sometimes hypocritical with that and Hibiki.

Fighting and other things like that are always relevant, everyone has different taste. I loved the fighting in Amazon, just as I love the fighting in Hibiki, I just wish both had better story to back it up with.

People always bitch and moan about how Hibiki had no belt, neither does Amazon and he's one of the precious old gen riders. The bike was just...bleh, with the theme that the show had going on, it's really hard to do anything good.

It was still way too different...like, the Hibiki of the old gen, only Hibiki didn't suck as much.

Awww come on now.

Still, if I had a TV show I'd make a Conan O Brian-ish "Dai Setsu Dan" Lever as those moments are hilarious.

Those are the nutty ones who are like "Meh! Rider died with Ishinomori-sensay [sic]!"

I'm an old-school lovin' bastard, but the whole belt/bike thing didn't matter to me in Hibiki. What mattered was a good show or, at the very least, an entertaining show. Hibiki fails in both areas. I'm one of the only fans of Shin Kamen Rider, for example -- yeah, I said Shin! He doesn't say henshin or have a bike, either -- and his movie is quite a mess, but what a fun, Paul Verhoeven-esque mess it is. But, damn it, he was named the True Masked Rider and he was created when Ishinomori was still alive, so in your face, to all the Ishinomori-lovin' bastards!

The bike was just...

No! The image of that "bike" had just left my mind...

And then in '88 some genius at Toei was like "You know, I really liked Amazon's bike. Too bad RX doesn't have one like it. Wait! Let's squish it down and make it a fugly car! If only we can find a name to match its ugliness...'Rideron!'"

Hey! It's not his fault- some real moles have that weird flower/starfish looking thingy on their noses. Otherwise, yeah, I totally agree with you.

They do exist.
The purpose of that ugly star is to help the creatures find food/prey cuz it had the ability to detect the electric fields of animals.

Thats a 'lil bit of general knowledge.

I tend to stick up for the crappy quality of suits in '70s tokusatsu, but...if that's what Amazon's buddy was based on, it was a pretty damn crappy suit. It looked nothing like it! I always thought it was supposed to be some sort of dog/hedgehog thing. Then again, Amazon was an all-around mess in suit quality, because after 31 years, people still aren't sure what the hell Amazon himself is supposed to be...
