2016-2017 Kamen Rider: Ex-Aid trademarked

Maybe sales? Or the reception of the shows?
I suspect we'll never find out. It could be as simple as Takahashi being on a reduced workload due to illness and it was felt the other two deserved enhanced credit for taking up the slack. Or yet more backstage politicking.

But with the change being made after the introduction of the final toy (Mugen) I'd doubt it'd be a sales thing as it's just too late to do anything about that now.

Hmmm ... but if it were to do with Takahashi being unavailable why would they put a TV-Asahi producer in the lead on Ex-Aid? Especially since Ohmori headed up the show with the second bestselling Sentai toyline in the franchise's history

"Hey you wanna do this show?" "Sure." There's another possibility. :P

I'm still holding out for something more than magazine scans. There's always more than just a site update when a new Rider show is announced. Guess we'll find out 6 hours from now.

I've been informed that countdown has already concluded depending on your location, in my case there's still 6 hours left on it. Apparently the big reveal was in fact what we already got, the TV Asahi page and staff info. I'll still keep an eye on it but there you go, I guess.

Meh. I can't stand Takahito Ohmori, and Shojiro Nakazawa is a "point and shoot" director so he doesn't have my hopes up either. I'm intrigued by the choice of writer (Type Tokujo was fine, and I've heard great things about Lupin the Third: Part 4), but aside from that I'm still not 100% on board. It does look like Ex-Aid Level 1 is a suit, but does that mean they're going to use a dwarf suit actor? I also don't really understand WHY he has to look super-deformed. Why can't he just have a plain design like Ryuki's Blank Form, Den-O's Plat-Form, or Kuuga's Growing Form?

Considering that Ohmori's producing, I think it's safe to say Riku Sanjo will probably be on board as a secondary writer at least. Woo.

Because it's a cute nod to video games. There's no reason they CAN'T just repeat past ideas instead of doing something fresh, but that's what we're getting. :P

Lupin the Third Part Four was one of the best anime I've ever seen on simulcast. But that sadly doesn't guarantee a smooth ride. After all, I loved Gurren Lagann but when it's head writer got the job on Fourze, he infamously couldn't handle the pace and the secondary writers had to do a lot more episodes than usual. As for why it's super deformed, well it's pretty much the standard proportions for a 90s side-scrolling video game character, and sd mascots are still super popular, especiallhy in Japan.

Had no idea that happened with Fourze, it seemed like it turned out fine, at least to me - it's my second favorite Rider show.

That being said, I can't even say knowing the writer's work will tell you anything. The same writer can do a good job, okay job, or bad job. I kinda figure there's a number of behind-the-scenes reasons for that. That and whether or not the tone/genre of story they're interested in telling - and how they tell it - appeals to you.

The only thing this staff announcement had that caught my interest was knowing that the head writer has minimal toku involvement, which moreso intrigues me in a "I wonder how that will go" way. It really does come down to watching the show itself.

My read on the situation is that TV Asahi maybe isn't happy with how the production on the shows is going, for whatever reason. Ex-Aid clearly shows that they want more control on the final product. In the past it's been the Asahi producer working sort of hands off with the Toei producer calling most of the shots, but with two Asahi producers on board, it's hard to say what Ohmori's role will be in comparison to shows he's done in the past.

I wonder if Ghost's story becoming more of a central focus in the last few episodes has anything to do with the credit changes. The timelines sort of match up.

Riku Sanjo's supposedly said he's going to step away from TV writing for a while and try to dive back into manga.

Also, Ohmori might just be a producer on this with Sasaki calling the major shots.

Looks like the official Bandai page for Ex-Aid is... sort of up. Under a temp URL: http://rider.b-boys.jp/newrider/

All that's put up is the Gamer Driver. Anyone happen to keep up with b-boys during initial Drive and Ghost reveals? I know that Gaim had a countdown of its own which would slowly reveal more toy pictures, so I'm expecting something like that here.

Incidentally, I don't know if this affects anyone outside of Japan since I don't think non-Japanese residence could sign up for the site's membership service, but they put up a notice about its discontinuation on the main site. I can't make much sense f it since I don't know what kind of content they have, but it seems like they're just discontinuing the Ghost-related membership content in favor of the next series.

Also, they mention the site will be going through a "renewal" on September 1st, which I take to mean they'll be updating the http://rider.b-boys.jp/ URL to be an Ex-Aid site with all of the Ghost content moved to a new URL. Was wondering how that would go since they normally had specific URLs for each Rider series until now.

Huh, so they kinda did give him compound eyes. Either that or they photographed the action suit and they're the holes for the suit actor to see out of?
