There Are Now Two Sonic Movies On The Paramount Schedule

It wasn’t long after Sonic The Hedgehog 3 hit theaters that Paramount promised another one… and it was a bit obvious since there was a post-credits sequence that heavily implied it was not the end. If you headed for the theater exit too early and missed it, Sonic was racing in the forest when he was suddenly harassed by Metal Sonic, but then Amy Rose arrived to save the day with her giant hammer. Sonic 4 is supposed to be released in March of 2027, but it might not be called Sonic 4 if rumors are to be believed. I almost don’t believe them though…unless the whispers are correct that they would call a movie “Sonic CD.” Whatever it’s called, if you think THAT’S the end of Sonic movies, it won’t stop there either. Paramount just placed a second Sonic-adjacent movie on their schedule, and by “Sonic-adjacent” we mean they referred to it as a “Sonic Universe Event Film.” They’re being as vague as possible and offering no hints, but here’s the thing…there was a SECOND post-credits sequence in Sonic 3 (a sequence that, to my chagrin, even I missed). Apparently it implies Shadow did not die in the space […]

Yes! Amy finally joined the story. I am not sure how I feel about calling the next film “Sonic CD,” but if they take inspiration from the game’s tone and time travel themes, it could be interesting. What really got my attention is the “Sonic Universe Event Film.” That label makes me think they are planning something larger than a regular sequel. If Shadow survived, then they probably want to give him a major role again, which I think is the right move because he has too much history to be used only once. I hope they slow down and give each character space to develop, though. The cast is getting big very fast, and I do not want everyone fighting for screen time. Still, I am optimistic because Paramount seems committed to long-term plans, and they have not disappointed me yet.

I like that Sonic is finally getting the same treatment that other big franchises get. When studios plan this many movies ahead, it means they see long-term potential. I think Sonic 4 releasing in 2027 gives them enough time to polish things. I do not really care what they call it as long as Amy, Tails, and Knuckles get stronger roles. I am curious about that event film because it sounds like a spin-off but still important. If they focus on Shadow again, I am fine with it. He brings a different energy that the series needs. I just hope they do not rush the story.

To be honest, I am more interested in Metal Sonic than Shadow. Metal Sonic has not appeared much in recent adaptations, so seeing him in a movie feels fresh to me. Amy joining the story also makes things feel more complete because she has been part of Sonic’s core group for decades. I think calling the movie “Sonic CD” would be strange because general audiences might not understand the reference. But if they borrow ideas from the game without using the title, I would prefer that. The event film sounds like a gamble, but sometimes risks pay off.

I am a little worried about franchise fatigue. I enjoy the Sonic movies, but announcing two new films this early makes me wonder if they might stretch things too thin. I want quality more than quantity. The idea of an event film feels a bit vague, and I hope it is not just a marketing phrase. If Shadow is alive, then I hope they handle his return carefully and not make it feel forced. Still, I will watch both movies. I just want the pacing and writing to stay solid.

It is funny how the studio acts like they are being mysterious, but everyone is guessing the same thing. If Shadow survived, then the movie is probably about him. I do not mind. He brings a different energy that the series needs. I just hope they do not change his personality too much for mainstream appeal.

I am happy to see Amy finally entering the movie side of the franchise. She has been in the games for so long. I hope they give her proper development instead of only making her the “new character.” Metal Sonic also looked amazing. I am more excited for Sonic 4 than the event film because I prefer straightforward stories over universe expansions.

Seeing Paramount stack two Sonic projects on the calendar gives a sense of how confident they are in this franchise. The idea of using a title like “Sonic CD” sounds unusual, but it also suggests they may want to explore older game material. The appearance of Metal Sonic and Amy in the credits set up a lot of possibilities, so a follow-up feels natural. The one surprise is the mention that Shadow might still be alive. That twist opens the door for a darker storyline, which could balance the lighter tone of the main films.

Metal Sonic entering the movie universe raises expectations for a more intense rivalry. The games usually treat Metal Sonic as a major threat, so it will be interesting to see how the movie handles him. Sonic 4 could become more emotionally grounded if they explore Sonic’s reactions to fighting a mechanical version of himself.
