Attack On Titan Creator Now Regrets Turning Eren Evil

Humanity sure seemed hosed at the beginning of Attack On Titan. The Titans were a lot bigger, a lot stronger, and liked to chow down on people. Their only weakness […]

It’s interesting to see how the character of Eren evolved throughout the series. His transformation definitely left a mark on fans, sparking a lot of debates about morality and the choices we make in hard circumstances. What did you think about his journey?

It's interesting that the creator has mixed feelings about Eren's character. I remember when Eren was introduced, he felt like the underdog we all could root for, and then his transformation had everyone reeling. It really shifted the tone of the series, which I think is part of what made Attack on Titan so impactful. But I can see why the creator might have some regrets; having a beloved protagonist go down a dark path can alienate some fans.

That said, the moral complexity of Eren's journey really got people talking about what it means to be a hero or a villain. I'm curious, do you think Eren's turn adds depth or detracts from the overall story? I'm all for complex characters, but sometimes I wonder if they go a bit too far.

I think Isayama is being too hard on himself. Eren’s turn to the dark side made the story much more interesting and memorable. Many stories have heroes who stay good until the end, but Attack on Titan showed how anger and pain can change a person completely. I liked that twist even if it was sad. The ending felt real because of it. I don’t think he needs to regret it so much.

Eren becoming the villain was shocking at first but it made perfect sense with his personality. He was always full of rage from the beginning. Isayama was young when he wrote it, so maybe he sees it differently now, but for me the story is still strong. I respect that he is honest about his feelings though.

I actually understand why Eren ended up like that. From the start, he was never a calm or balanced person. He always had strong anger and a very simple view of enemies. When you give that kind of person power, it can go in a bad direction. For me, the ending feels consistent with his personality, even if it is painful to watch. I do not think the creator should regret it too much. Stories do not always need a clean hero. Sometimes it is more honest to show someone becoming worse. What I think could be improved is how the final part explained his thinking. It felt rushed, so some people could not connect with his choices. But the idea itself is not wrong. Eren becoming the problem instead of the solution made the story stand out for me. It stayed in my mind longer than a simple victory story.

I think people forget how young Eren is in the story. He is not a wise leader. He is emotional and reacts strongly. When someone like that faces constant war and loss, it can go very wrong. So for me, his actions are believable. What I do not like is how quickly everything is explained at the end. It feels like big ideas are pushed into a short time. If there were more scenes of him thinking and struggling, it would feel more complete. The creator saying he was immature when writing it is interesting, but I think that same feeling helped create a very real character. Sometimes flaws in writing can still produce something powerful. I would not erase that.

Bro, Isayama really said he was an edgelord in his twenties. That made me laugh but it also makes sense. Eren’s extreme actions came from that same energy. I still think the ending was powerful even with the mixed feelings. The series made millions of people feel strong emotions and that is hard to do. I wouldn’t change it if I were him.

Eren’s villain turn is what made Attack on Titan stand out from other anime. Many stories keep the hero pure, but this one showed how a normal person can become dangerous when filled with hate. Isayama calling it foolishness from his twenties is funny. That “foolishness” created something millions of people still discuss today. I personally wouldn’t change it.
