What’s Toho going to do after their long-running hit My Hero Academia wraps up this year? Start some spinoffs! It’s not like the MHA series is the only adaptable material out there. Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court created the spinoff My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, which is set a few years before the main series and stars a completely different cast. Deku’s perspective of this Quirk-y world is just one of many. For a change of pace, Vigilantes follows Koichi Haimawari, gifted with the ability to glide quickly across any flat surface, like an ice skater. Koichi has similar dreams to Deku’s of becoming a superhero….but HIS problem is, he can’t get into the academy to obtain an official license. The city doesn’t let you commit heroism without approval! Well, maybe what they don’t know won’t hurt them. One fateful afternoon Koichi meets Knuckleduster, an off-the-record Super who introduces him to the ways of the Vigilantes — those who are not regulated yet go around superheroing anyway. Knuckleduster, his friend Kazuho Haneyema, and Koichi form a new team of underground heroes defending the city from fearsome threats. The first season of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes wrapped this week, but with the […]

I actually liked Vigilantes more than the main My Hero Academia. Koichi feels very grounded, and the struggles he faces are more realistic to me. Not everyone can get into a fancy school or become the next All Might. It’s interesting to see how people with good hearts still try to help even without permission. Knuckleduster is also a great character. He’s rough, but he really cares. I’m glad they’re making a season 2. Hopefully they don’t rush the pacing. There are some deep moments in the manga that I hope they treat with respect.

Season 2 is all I wanted. Koichi is way better than Deku to me. He works harder with less. I hope they show more of Captain Celebrity too. That guy is weird but cool.

What excites me about season 2 is how it will explore the shift in tone. Season 1 was about discovery and figuring out the Vigilante role. But season 2, if they follow the manga, will show Koichi facing more dangerous enemies and emotional decisions. The manga started light but went to very serious places. Also, the voice acting is strong on both the Japanese and English sides. Umeda does a fantastic job showing Koichi's growth. I hope this season shows the start of Koichi becoming more than just “The Crawler.”

This made my day. I got into Vigilantes kind of late, but I binged the first season with my sister, and we both loved it. We especially liked Pop☆Step. She has such a fun personality, and her friendship with Koichi is cute. The animation style felt more grounded than the main MHA series too. It’s kind of nice to see a world where people try to do good even when they aren’t given permission. I'm super excited for season 2 now.

I thought the first season was okay. Not bad, but not amazing either. There were parts that felt slow and some characters didn’t feel developed yet. But it has potential. I heard the manga gets way better after a certain arc, and if the anime follows that path, then season 2 might be much more exciting. Knuckleduster is still the best part. His backstory and motivations are powerful. I’ll keep watching, but I want stronger writing this time.

YESSSS! I was hoping they wouldn’t stop after just one season! The way Koichi learns and grows outside of the system is inspiring. I love characters who don’t have all the support but still push forward. Also, I need more Knuckleduster fight scenes. That guy doesn’t even have a Quirk and still throws punches like a boss. I’m glad the original voice cast is back. I watch in English and Japanese both, and they all fit the characters well.

As someone who grew up watching the original MHA, I found Vigilantes refreshing. It’s not about saving the world with flashy moves. It’s about doing the right thing even when no one sees it. That message connected with me. The show has a lot of heart. I’m glad Toho is continuing it, especially as the main MHA comes to an end. New heroes with different paths are just as important.

Koichi means a lot to me. I’m not someone who always fits in or succeeds the normal way either. Watching him try anyway, with no fame and no big powers, gives me hope. I also like how the show doesn’t make everything look perfect. Being a hero is messy. Knuckleduster may be harsh, but he teaches Koichi how to survive in that mess. Season 2 is going to break hearts, but I’m ready.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first season. I felt it lacked energy compared to the main show. But I admit, the world-building was good. Seeing how people live in a world full of Quirks without being famous or powerful was new for me. I’m going to give season 2 a chance. If the story deepens and the characters grow, I might enjoy it more than I thought. Maybe not every hero needs a license to matter.
