“In the end, love will save the world”. ~ Mary STORYLINE: Most people know the story about Mary, the mother of Jesus. If not read it in Luke 1:26-38. The Bible does not reveal a lot about this innocent young girl, so the producers and directors liberally used their artistic license to fill in the missing pieces and create a story. Sir Anthony Hopkins, as always, shines in his performance. He is particularly good when it comes to playing historical figures. In this film, he plays King Herod, the mean king who killed a lot of babies, i.e. “The Slaughter of the Innocents” which is an incident many people say can’t possibly be true or an actual historical event, because it’s only mentioned in the Bible. At any rate, King Herod was told of a prophecy and since he fancied himself “The King of the Jews”, he wanted to thwart the prophecy that a Messiah would be born who was destined to be the real king of everybody! It's disappointing to see the "Free Palestine" crowd attacking an Israeli actress for playing the role of Mary. Mary was, of course, Israeli, so it makes perfect sense to cast an Israeli actress. The focus should be on the film itself and the artistic interpretation of the story, not on the nationality of the actors. It's a shame that political agendas are making people sick.
