The Dreamcast was one of the greatest consoles ever made, proving itself by amassing an amazing library in less than half the time of a typical game machine (because that’s about how long it had). Ever since, it’s been up to the homebrew community to keep things going. One of the more recent Dreamcast homebrews is the space shooter Sturmwind, which is getting a physical release thanks to the folks at VGNYSoft. Sturmwind contains sixteen levels across seven varied worlds, over 100 enemy types and twenty massive bosses to shoot down. Modern conveniences include an achievement system and a list of bonuses to unlock as you play. Some homebrews are only developed with the system of the programmer’s native country in mind, but this won’t be the case with Sturmwind. Whoa, a new Dreamcast game in 2024? That's incredible! Sturmwind sounds like a classic space shooter right up my alley. Sixteen levels, tons of enemies, and even achievements? Interesting that a homebrew game is getting a physical release. Sturmwind looks decent, but I never played much Dreamcast. Is it worth digging out my old console for this? The last time I used mine was like 2005 but I'm willing to get it from the attic.

New Dreamcast game? Sounds like a gimmick. The system is ancient, why bother? There are plenty of amazing space shooters on modern consoles with way better graphics. This Sturmwind seems like a nostalgia grab for a niche audience.

It's awesome to see the Dreamcast homebrew scene alive and well! Good for VGNYSoft for giving Sturmwind a physical release. Even if the game isn't my style, I love that people are still making games for this classic console.

Limited edition with a booklet and a VMU shell? I wonder how much extra that'll cost. The standard edition sounds fine for me. As long as the gameplay is solid, Sturmwind could be a fun weekend project. Gotta check the pre-order price on Wednesday.
