The NES Now Has A Jane Austen Game

Of all the writers that have ever lived, Jane Austen is arguably the most successful; there are few other people I can think of who have been dead for over 200 years yet retain such a rabid fanbase to this day. Of course since her novels are so old, they’re firmly in the public domain, which allows things like Pride & Prejudice & Zombies to happen, or a 90s movie that turns Emma Woodhouse into a Beverly Hills valley girl, or, in the case we’re discussing today, an 8-bit platformer starring Austen herself.

Interesting concept, but seriously? Jane Austen in an 8-bit platformer? I get the appeal of mashing up genres, but isn't this taking it a bit too far? I watched the trailer and, call me old-fashioned, but I can't imagine the regency era and pixel graphics mixing well. Maybe it's just me, but I'll stick to the classic novels rather than seeing Jane jump around like Mario.

This is giving me all the retro feels! I grew up with the NES, and the idea of a Jane Austen game on it is oddly exciting. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Pride and Prejudice characters turned into pixel art? The fact that it's playable on modern platforms is a plus. Count me in for a trip down memory lane with Jane Austen's 8-Bit Adventure!I love how indie developers bring unique ideas to life. Jane Austen's 8-Bit Adventure might sound bizarre, but it's the kind of creativity we need in the gaming industry. Kudos to Matthew Justice for thinking outside the box. I'll be checking it out on itch.io – supporting indie devs and enjoying a quirky gaming experience, what's not to love?

Not sure about this one. I mean, I appreciate the effort, but Jane Austen in an 8-bit world feels a bit forced. The original Castlevania comparison raises my eyebrows – can you really compare the elegance of Austen's world with the platformer intensity of Castlevania? I might give the demo a shot, but I'm skeptical.

$60 for a NES cart? No way! I'll be hunting for discounts on Steam or itch.io. Don't get me wrong; the concept intrigues me, but my wallet is on a budget. If I can get the same experience for a fraction of the price, count me in. Excited to see how Jane swings that pen quill!
