Force Awakens On Track For Record Breaking Second Weekend

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens, they doubled down on their release with it being the week (literally) before Christmas. Knowing no doubt that fans would be there not only for the opening, but in the week after during the Christmas holiday, when many would go and see a movie with friends or family.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, this bet seems to be paying off. For after a record breaking, in numerous ways, opening weekend, The Force Awakens is on track for a record breaking second weekend to. The paper reports that Force Awakens made $49.3 million dollars on Christmas day, which is double that of the previous record held by the Robert Downey Jr. film Sherlock Holmes.
With this addition, Force Awakens has now earned $449.9 million stateside, and a global haul of $890.3 million. With it also being on pace for over $150 million dollar haul for this weekend alone, beating Jurassic Worlds record of $106 in its second weekend.
At the rate its going, the only question left for Force Awakens will be, what records won’t it break at the box office?
