The first piece of downloadable content for Titanfall 2 is due to be released next week. The Respawn Entertainment first-person shooter will receive an update on December 3, providing a number of fixes and additional content, including Angel City – a map that featured in its predecessor. However, anyone who pre-ordered the game will get special early access to the update from November 30, giving them a few extra days to play the map.
As well as Angel City, the latest patch will also include a number of weapons for both pilots and titans alongside some temporary game modes with alternative rules compared to the standard offerings.
Unlike many other shooters that have released in the past few months, Titanfall 2 does not have any sort of Season Pass for DLC. Instead, EA have said that all additional content for the game – in terms of maps and game modes – will be free to download for players.
Speaking during an investor call several EA executives explained how this decision came to try to build up a strong fanbase and ensure that the franchise can grow. CFO Blake Jorgensen said: “And so part of the strategy of building a franchise is you have a long view.”
“You think about the business differently than you might an existing franchise like a FIFA or a Madden. And what that means is we’re looking for ways to not fragment the player base early, but to include as everybody as possible and as we can to continue to build that franchise.”
