It seems for a brief time this week on June 10, the Xbox Store was selling Fallout 4 for free. Gamespot reports that the hit Bethesda Softworks game was available for free on the Xbox One store due to a pricing error. This included Fallout 4 and its DLC. Bethesda Softworks reportedly had “no idea” how such an error happened.
The free offer included the base game and expansions, including Automatron, Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbor. Bethesda VP Peter Hines was asked about the situation on Twitter. He stated, “No idea. Not my platform. Bug/hiccup. They’ll undo it.” Microsoft later corrected the error and returned Fallout 4 and its DLC releases to their normal price points.
Microsoft and the Xbox Store later pointed out that some players who purchased the game and the DLC for free might not actually get it. Microsoft did give out $10 codes for fans who did take part in the free offer. Per the report, a message was sent from Microsoft that read, “Our pricing error on Fallout 4 has been fixed and your free download will no longer work. For the inconvenience, we will deposit $10 by the end of June in your Microsoft account. This expires one year from the time it was deposited.”
Fallout 4 i available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. Several DLC expansions for the game have also already been released.
