It’s a fun time to be a Star Wars fan. Star Wars Rebels just returned for Season 2, Star Wars Battlefront is set to release this November, and the new Star Wars trilogy of movies kicks off this December. But it doesn’t seem to be stopping there, as there are rumors flying about more and more spinoffs and fill-ins to build the Star Wars universe like never before. One rumor has the return of a certain Jedi master get his own trilogy to fill in the 30 or so years between Episodes III and IV. At a live Q&A (via Indiewire), Ewan McGregor talked about this potential rumor:
“I’ll say it publicly, here, now. I’d be happy to do the story between Episode 3, that I finished in, and Episode 4 that Alec Guinness started in. I think that would be good. Disney should definitely do that,” McGregor said in a manner described by IndieWire as “half-quipping.”
He also addressed The Force Awakens saying, “I’m excited about it as much as anyone else. I saw the trailer and it looks like he absolutely nailed it and it feels right. But I’m not sure about the [crossguard] lightsaber. If you fight with a lightsaber properly you don’t need one.”
So he’s on board, but will Disney and Lucasfilm pull the trigger and make it happen? Time will tell. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18.
