Evolve Set to Receive Two New Free Maps Starting This Month
Turtle Rock Studios has announced that the asymmetrical first-person shooter game Evolve will offer players two brand new, free maps later this month. The new maps are the Broken Hill Mine and the Broken Hill Foundry, which feature new, unique environments for the game. The Broken Hill Mine map will feature the mining caves below the planet’s surface. The Broken Hill Foundry is a fully industrial setting and puts players in factory corridors.
The new maps will be playable in Hunt, Nest and Rescue game modes through Skirmish, a Custom Match or an Evacuation campaign. Per Turtle Rock’s announcement, each new map will have new Evacuation campaign effects.
Here are some of the new features and details for the Broken Hill Mine map:
- Set in a bohrium mine on Shear, featuring a deep labyrinth of caves running underneath the surface.
- The cave system is divided into three areas: a rock quarry; a venom hound nest; and a massive conveyor belt area. They all surround a central drill chamber.
- The map has hidden destructible entryways that give the Monster a shortcut through the map or a way to feint the hunters and put them on the wrong path.
- Broken Hill Mine Evacuation Campaign Effects:
- Hunter Win: Mining Drones get re-purposed as Shield Drones for the Hunter team in the next match.
- Monster Win: Destroying the mining drill makes the environment tectonically unstable. The resulting earthquakes will flush out birds from the surrounding areas, deceiving the Hunters as to where the Monster is really located.
Here are some of the new features and details for the Broken Hill Foundry map:
- Puts players in the wilds of shear and into an industrial complex.
- The map is an overlapping mix of open areas, corridors and low ceilings.
- The warehouse in the map has three levels and goes from the streets to the rooftops of Slagtown.
- The map is filled with bohrium crates, which can be eaten as food for the Monster.
- Broken Hill Foundry Evacuation Campaign Effects:
- Hunter Win: Energy-dense bohrium is used to supercharge the Hunter’s jetpacks.
- Monster Win: Destroying the foundry engulfs the Monster in bohrium gas, making its melee attacks even more powerful.
The Broken Hill Mine and Foundry maps will be available as a free download update. Xbox One players will get the first crack at the new maps on March 31. PC and PlayStation 4 players will have to wait download the new maps until April 30. You can check out some screenshots of the new maps, courtesy of Turtle Rock Studios, below.
