We now know a lot more about the proposed Buffy reboot / continuation on Hulu than we did at this time last month. A full cast list and even a few candid set photos are now floating around out there, from the pilot that is shooting as we speak.
Ryan Kiera Armstrong, last seen on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, has been cast as the new Slayer. After false rumors that her name was Poppy, it’s been confirmed that she is Nova…Nova The Vampire Slayer (maybe that’ll be the title, maybe it won’t).
Like the previous series, Nova will have a “Scooby Gang” and a mentor librarian to rely on. Her mentor is Mr. Burke, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott (Frasier). The Scoobies are Sarah Bock (Severance) as Gracie, Ava Jean (Law & Order: SVU) as Larkin, Faly Rakotohavana as Hugo. and Daniel di Tomasso (Major Crimes) as Abe. There’s also Kingston Vernes as Carson, “a popular student and Junior Olympian who Nova will have a crush on.”
And yes, Buffy will show up every now and then to give advice. Sarah Michelle Gellar is confirmed to have a recurring role — not every episode, but select episodes — and she was spotted on set by the Daily Mail, who snapped this pic of her in a red dress.

But you know what the most unusual thing about all this chatter is? THIS TECHNICALLY HASN’T BEEN GREENLIT YET. There is no Buffy reboot on Hulu’s official release schedule! All this is FOR THE PILOT — which Hulu could still pass on!
I know given all this hype, it feels unlikely. But hype is one thing — a botched pilot is another. If Hulu doesn’t like what they see, there could be delays and reshoots, or the project could be scrapped altogether. No one can say anything for certain at this early time. We’ll keep you in the know.
