Emily the Criminal, Aubrey Plaza’s graduation from Comedy
Emily, the Criminal is a crime drama written and directed by John Patton Ford. He mostly does short films, and this movie will be his most significant break. Comedians usually struggle with getting typecast because people are so used to seeing them for doing funny content. Aubrey Plaza is mainly known for her comedy roles. ( Parks and Recreation, Dirty Grandpa, and Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever) She has been becoming more serious lately, from horrors to dramas.
Branching out has been hard for more actors known for comedy, but this film could be a risk that is worth it. Plaza has been getting roles outside her comfort zone, and this movie is part of her transition to becoming a severe material to play.
She seemed to be able to pull off more serious roles, and this could be her graduation from comedy. She has done horror movies before, but this Murder Drama is darker than any horror movie. We see a wide-eyed innocent girl who gets corrupted by the system. Critics have praised Audrey’s Performance that the film got a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is a social commentary on how a person can become corrupted because of societal class’s unfair division.

It had its world premiere at Sundance; all of the films there are independently made, and it’s frequently utilized as a means of obtaining distribution. Therefore, as of today, it is not accessible to either party until a distributor purchases it. The reviews for Aubrey’s performance are outstanding. People shouldn’t be passing her up because she has excellent acting skills. She is more than a funny girl.
