EA Finished With Online Passes
Back in 2010, EA had announced “Project Ten Dollar”, known to most gamers as the online pass, now however, EA has announced the discontinuation of online passes. In an e-mail sent to GamesBeat, EA’s John Reseburg said: “Yes, we’re discontinuing online pass” and “None of our new EA titles will include that feature.”
He then went on to say “Players didn’t respond to the format” and that EA had “listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”
Do gamers really have a reason to be happy though? EA are still likely to generate profit from their content, possibly by utilizing micro-transactions and DLC. Reseberg finished with “We’re still committed to creating content and services that enhance the game experience well beyond the day you first start playing.”
It’s anyone’s guess what that means….

At least I can pick up a game without worrying whether or not it will work online now. Good sign, but my new attitude continues to be wait and see.

I’m with Taylor on this. Either they have something else planned to curb used games or Microsoft or Sony has the solution for them.
