Dr. Stone: New World Finally Arrives Next Month
The anime landscape is rife with shonen tournaments, isekai adventures and harem rom-coms, but there isn’t much we could claim was “one of a kind” — until Dr. Stone. A semi-educational “Bill Nye meets the apocalypse” program where real-world science drives the plot at all times is certainly unique for this genre, but it works. And we’ve been waiting for the third season for quite some time. Crunchyroll confirmed today that episodes will begin this April.
The titular Dr. Stone (real name: Senku Ishigami) was frozen along with everyone else in some kind of mysterious phenomenon that turned all life on Earth to stone. Millions of years later, the right cocktail of chemicals dripping from a cave just happened to bring Dr. Stone back to life, and he used his knowledge of science to duplicate the chemical and resurrect others, then to start rebuilding civilization.
While the first two people Stone un-froze were friendly, the third was not. While escaping the man, Stone stumbled upon a village of people that had been resurrected well before he had. He used his knowledge of science to improve their society, and they eventually made him their king. Then, when that other guy came back (with an army), Stone used science to gain the upper hand in battle. And that’s where anime viewers have been left off. Here’s what to expect from Season 3 according to Crunchyroll:
With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.
The sub version of Dr. Stone: New World will premiere on Crunchyroll April 6 at 7:30 AM Pacific / 10:30 AM Eastern, while the dub will begin on April 20. Have a trailer:
