Disney’s “SNOW WHITE” ~ To Be Released March 2025

“SNOW WHITE” is a 2025 Disney film that will be released in theaters on March 21, 2025, and will be available on the Disney+ streaming platform shortly after its theatrical release.

♦

The Brothers Grimm are two German brothers renowned for their contributions to folklore and fairy tales. They published the German fairy tale “Snow White” in 1812.

In 1937, Disney delighted the American audience by adapting this fairy tale into its first full-length animated feature film paving the way for future Disney animated classics.

It’s 2025 and Disney is set to release its live-action remake of “Snow White” on March 21st. The remake will be a musical like the animated film but will have all-new original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (REF: Snow White (2025) | Disney Movies)

  • No doubt everyone will line up to watch this movie because it stars Gal Gadot of “Wonder Woman” fame. She went from being a superhero to a supervillainess Evil Queen. Either way, this actress has a commanding screen presence and when you see her you think: ‘If Snow White wasn’t supposed to be the heroine in this story, that Evil Queen would have kicked her butt!!’
  • By contrast, Rachel Zegler who plays Snow White expressed her disappointment about the results of the 2024 US presidential election and was forced to apologize for exercising her right to free speech. Her comment appeared on Instagram, but screenshots ere made and circulated via X (formerly Twitter), a platform where the owner Elon Musk preaches about the importance of protecting free speech. Oh! The irony! (Psstt. It’s OK Ms. Zegler because I shared more than enough disappointment via my posts on X for the both of us!)

BEFORE playing the titular role in “Snow White”, Rachel Zegler appeared in “West Side Story” (2021) ~ she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress; and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” (2023).

The writers took the liberty of changing up the storyline (a little bit) to present a strong female lead who decides to take back what was stolen from her, i.e. her father’s kingdom which was her happy home. Marrying a prince and living happily ever after in his kingdom, is nice but … getting your kingdom back is way better!

Finally, being true to the spirit of the late Walt Disney (i.e. his earnest desire to captivate the audience by making use of the latest technology available to create memorable visuals), the movie features the CGI reimagining of the seven dwarfs and includes state-of-the-art visual effects to bring the enchanted forest and various other magical elements to life.

  • NOTE: Even though CGI was used because there was controversy about being insensitive to “dwarves” ~ which I think was just a bunch of hooey ~ I think Mr. Disney would have been OK with using special effects. This legendary icon in the entertainment business was an awesome “imagineer”. (THE ORIGIN OF “IMAGINEERING”, Disney History 101)

Snow White was my Snow White! Fair as snow, with lips like a rose... Messing with the classics just ain't right. I don't mind a new story with a new princess, but leave Snow White how she is! It's like changing the recipe of your grandma's apple pie – it might still be good, but it's not the same. They should have called her Snow Brown

Oh, come on. This is all about money, not some social justice crusade. Disney sees a trend, they jump on it. They figure they can slap a new coat of paint on an old story and rake in the cash. If they truly cared about diversity, they'd be creating new stories with new characters, not just race-swapping.

This is an outrage! They're ruining our childhood! Disney needs to listen to the fans, not some woke mob trying to rewrite history. Leave Snow White alone! If they want a diverse princess, make a new movie! There's a difference between reimagining a story and just changing the characters' skin color. If you're going to update Snow White, update the whole story! Make it relevant to a modern audience. But just race-swapping feels lazy and uninspired. Give us something new!

I really appreciate the emphasis on Snow White reclaiming her kingdom in this version. It’s empowering to see Disney moving away from traditional fairy tale endings. Rachel Zegler is a talented actress, and I think she’ll bring depth to the role. That said, I hope they handle the balance between modernization and honoring the classic story delicately. And while I understand the decision to use CGI for the dwarfs, part of me misses the charm of practical effects and live-action character portrayals.

Disney’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technology is impressive and very much in the spirit of Walt Disney himself. However, I’m curious if the heavy reliance on CGI might alienate viewers who grew up loving the hand-drawn artistry of the original Snow White. The story updates sound intriguing, though. A heroine reclaiming her kingdom rather than relying on a prince feels fitting for 2025. This film will undoubtedly spark discussions about tradition versus innovation in storytelling.

I’m genuinely looking forward to this! Gal Gadot is always captivating, and the idea of her playing a glamorous yet sinister villain is exciting. The new angle on Snow White’s story is refreshing, but I hope they don’t stray too far from the essence of the original. Disney remakes can sometimes lose the emotional core in favor of spectacle, and I hope this one avoids that pitfall. Fingers crossed it’s more like Cinderella and less like Pinocchio.

Rachel Zegler getting heat for expressing her political views is unfair. She’s an actor, but she’s also a person with opinions. This unnecessary backlash only proves how much scrutiny public figures endure. As for the movie, I’m excited to see her bring Snow White to life in a way we haven’t seen before. Reclaiming her kingdom sounds way more engaging than waiting for a prince. Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen? Perfection. I’ll be first in line!

I can’t help but feel that Disney missed the mark with the casting of Snow White. The character is described in the original tale as having “skin as white as snow,” which is a defining trait of her identity. Casting a Latina actress, while progressive in intent, feels like a departure from the source material. Representation is important, but it should align with the story being told. The backlash on YouTube with the trailer dislikes isn’t surprising—audiences clearly have strong feelings about staying true to the classic portrayal. Disney needs to find a balance between inclusivity and respecting the essence of the characters we’ve grown up with.
