Zenescope Releases New Robyn Hood & Grimm Fairy Tales Comics
Grimm Fairy Tales and its spinoff Robyn Hood are still going. These were once publisher Zenescope’s flagship titles, and I suppose in a sense they still are, but they exist in a different world.
The Grimm that’s on the market today is a reboot of sorts. Grimm Fairy Tales bore some notoriety ten years ago for shamelessly carrying the premise “it’s fairy tales, but everyone is a barely dressed, weirdly-proportioned hot chick.” Fables if the writer was Larry Flynt. That was the market back in the 2000s and if Zenescope were to print “Snow White meets Carls Jr ad” comics today, they’d probably meet some blowback.
Zenescope sent us the cover and some info on what’s going on with Grimm today. Here’s the situation in Volume 2, Issue 72: “The Star Spawn invasion has begun, and the might of Skye Mathers, along with the rest of Arcane Acre and MYSTERE-ORACLE OF THE DEAD, are the only things that stand between our world and complete annihilation–but will they be enough?”
The character of Robyn Hood was introduced in Grimm Fairy Tales and became popular enough to support her own book, though not on a regular numbered schedule. The latest is out now — a 40-page one shot subtitled Spawn of Nyarlathotep. “New Yorkers keep disappearing…and the pile of human bones in the sewers below the city keeps growing. Robyn means to put an end to the killings but to do that she’ll have to defeat an ancient evil who’s power she can barely comprehend.” Let alone try to pronounce its name.
Zenescope has several books on the market at the moment, most of them offshoots of Grimm. Check them all out through this link. Grimm Fairy Tales #72 and Robyn Hood: Spawn of Nyarlathotep are out in comics shops now.
