If you don’t know by now, one of the biggest sleights against the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that despite them having access to the vast majority of Marvel characters…they don’t have the rights to all of them. This is the reason why the Hulk is relegated to a co-star and why the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises don’t exist in the MCU. Heck, even Spider-Man isn’t under their control, they had to make a deal with Sony for him to come in. But, if reports are to be believed, Disney is making a play to get part of the universe back in order.
Rumors ran rapid today that Disney began talks with Fox to buy their entire movie studio. Which would include not only the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, but also Avatar, among others.
Now, this is NOT confirmed, far from it, it’s just talks based on reports. However, the implications of this is huge. It could bring the X-Men to the MCU and open up numerous possibilities, not the least of which is Hugh Jackman becoming an Avenger…which he said would be the ONLY way he would return as Wolverine after Logan.
And of course, the chance for the Fantastic Four to be reborn again…and under the guidance of Marvel, is a big fan-desire.
Should it happen, we’ll let you know.
