Deadpool 2 Loses Director Tim Miller
A huge shakeup has happened for Deadpool 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the smash hit film that premiered earlier this year after a ten year wait of sorts. Yet despite the long wait, the movie was well worth it, and much of that acclaim was due to the directing style of Tim Miller. He perfectly portrayed the “Merc With The Mouth” in a funny way that was true to the comics. Yet, as The Wrap reveals, conflicts with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds have forced him to depart the sequel, despite being asked to stay on originally to helm the film.
Also according to The Wrap, the reasoning behind the departure is twofold. When Ryan Reynolds renegotiated his deal for Deadpool when the sequel got greenlit, he got certain permissions and creative controls he didn’t have for the original, this apparently led to some tension with Miller. Then, when it was announced that Cable would be in the sequel, as revealed in the after credits sequence of the first film, Miller wanted Kyle Chandler to be the actor to portray him, while Reynolds did not.
Finally, Miller’s vision for the film was a “stylized” sequel, while Reynolds wanted to stick with the humor that made the film both get an “R” rating, while also giving it much praise from fans and critics.
Whatever the “true” reason, this is a huge blow for the sequel, and Fox will no doubt be looking hard for someone to fill Miller’s shoes.
