DC’s Bleeding Hearts #1 Set For Second Printing

This month DC relaunches its Vertigo line with three new titles: Bleeding Hearts, End Of Life and Brutal Dark, along with the continued run of The Nice House By The Sea under the Vertigo label. It’s too early to know how the line is doing as a whole because half the titles aren’t out, but this is a good sign: DC has ordered a second printing of Bleeding Hearts #1.

How can that be so if the book only launched yesterday? Because comic shops order their books in advance, in anticipation of how they’ll sell. They must have had enough faith in Deniz Camp and Stipan Morian’s new series that demand warranted a second printing.

Bleeding Hearts is a wacky tale about the zombie apocalypse, from the perspective of the zombies. The dilemma of the main protagonist is that he may be turning BACK into a human. “The series follows two damaged souls bound by a shared trauma they cannot outrun, drawing them into a slow-burn descent where love, obsession, and monstrosity blur together,” says DC. “As their lives unravel, the story exposes the terrifying truths people hide behind their closest relationships, delivering a haunting, atmospheric debut that lingers long after the final page.”

The second print run of Bleeding Hearts will sport some differences from the first: the logo will be a different color on the main version, while the variant will be an inks-only version of Nick Dragotta’s variant artwork from the first printing.

But you can probably find the first print run of Bleeding Hearts on comic book store shelves right now. It only released yesterday, after all. The second run will hit shelves March 18.

Second printing already? That's huge for a brand new Vertigo book. I read the first issue last night and yeah, it's weird in the best way. Zombies dealing with turning human again – that's not something you see every day. The art is dark and moody, perfect for the slow-burn vibe. Glad shops ordered heavy on this one. People complain DC doesn't try new things, but this feels like they're actually listening. Hope the second print doesn't take forever to ship.

Nice! Second print for Bleeding Hearts #1 already. I picked it up yesterday and finished it in one sitting. The zombie perspective is done really well – not funny like some apocalypse stories, more tragic and messed up. The romance angle hits hard because both characters are broken. Deniz Camp and Stipan Morian make a strong team. Shops must have seen the hype building early. March 18 for the reprint isn't bad. I'm telling everyone at my LCS to hold copies.

I grew up reading Vertigo stories, so I feel curious but also careful. When they say the line is back, I want something bold, not just another zombie book with emotional drama. The idea of a zombie turning human again feels fresh to me because most stories go in the opposite direction. I like when comics try strange concepts, even if they fail sometimes. The part about trauma and obsession sounds serious, which could be good if the writing stays grounded and not too dramatic. I do not chase variants much, but the inks-only version sounds like something artists might appreciate more than casual readers. I think a fast second printing shows there is interest, but I want to see if readers stay after issue two or three. A strong start is easy; maintaining quality every month is harder. I will wait for reviews from regular readers before committing to a full pull list.

Second printing this quick is a solid win for DC. Bleeding Hearts isn't your typical zombie book – it's slower, more about the people (or ex-people) than the bites. The protagonist's fear of becoming human again is strangely sad. Art carries a lot of the mood too. Shops clearly believed in it from the solicitations. I'll probably double-dip on the variant cover when it comes out in March.

Bleeding Hearts #1 was better than I expected. Zombies with emotional problems? Yes please. The slow descent into obsession and monstrosity feels earned, not forced. Second print order means demand is there, which is great for a new Vertigo title. I like that the reprint has changes – different logo color and that inks-only variant sound worth getting. DC needs more books like this instead of endless reboots.

I am a casual reader who only buys comics sometimes, so I look for stories that feel different right away. The idea of a zombie slowly becoming human again makes me curious because it sounds emotional without needing a huge action focus. I hope the relationship part feels natural and not forced, since some comics try to be serious but end up sounding heavy. The second printing news makes me think shops see potential, which helps me feel more comfortable trying it. I do not usually care about collecting first printings, but I might grab one if I see it while browsing. The inks-only cover sounds nice for people who like to study the drawing lines, though I mostly focus on story flow. I will probably wait until a few issues release, then read them together so I can understand the tone better without long gaps.

I like seeing new titles succeed early because it gives the creative team confidence to experiment. A zombie story focused on emotional recovery instead of pure survival sounds meaningful to me. I enjoy slow character-driven plots as long as they keep moving forward each issue. The description about hidden truths in relationships makes me think the story might explore personal flaws rather than just external threats. I am not a big collector, so the printing differences do not matter much to me, but I appreciate when publishers offer options for different tastes. I hope the art style supports the darker tone without making every page too crowded with shadows. If readers continue supporting the Vertigo relaunch, maybe we will see more unusual ideas in the future instead of safe superhero content. I plan to give the first issue a chance once it reaches my local shop.
