Rogue One did a lot of things to try and tie it into not only what happened in the prequel films, but also what was about to happen in A New Hope. As fans who saw the movie now know, Rogue One took place mere days (in the the context of when the “mission” happened) before A New Hope was to take place.
But, what was easily one of the coolest moments of the film, that involved the returning Darth Vader, actually wasn’t in the original script. I speak of course of when Darth Vader boarded a Rebel ship in order to get the plans for the Death Star, then literally tore through just about every Rebel in his path until the plans boarded the Tantive IV (the ship of Princess Leia, who also cameoed) and got away from him.
That scene was a great display of power for Vader, as well as the perfect way to show how Rogue One tied to New Hope. But as Editor John Gilroy told Yahoo Movies, it wasn’t there until late in the production run.
“It was a fantastic add – the Vader action scene, with him boarding the ship and dispatching all those rebel soldiers. That was something conceptualized a little later. It was a really great punch in the arm and something I think fans wanted to see.”
That it was, and Rogue One was all the better for it.
