Crunchyroll made its latest move toward Total Anime Domination in the West with the purchase of Right Stuf, the long-standing online anime and manga warehouse. The announcement was made yesterday, at the exact moment the deal closed — it has apparently been in the works for a while in secret.
Right Stuf is one of the premiere US sellers of Japanese entetainment products and stocks “Blu-rays, manga books, music, figurines, collectables, and more.” They’ve also dipped their hand in direct distribution at times, translating and licensing out select titles on their own. They won’t need to do that anymore, of course.
“For years, Right Stuf has been an important part of anime fandom with products, services and a shopping experience that super-serves anime collectors,” said Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll. “We are excited to bring Crunchyroll and Right Stuf together and offer fans even more of what they love as one company.”
“For 35 years, Right Stuf’s mission has been to connect anime fans with the products they love,” stated Shawne Kleckner, CEO of Right Stuf. “Joining forces with Crunchyroll allows us to accelerate and scale this effort more than ever before. There has never been a more exciting time to be an anime fan than today!”
Customers should not notice much of a difference, WITH ONE EXCEPTION — and it depends on the kind of customer you are. Right Stuf will henceforth cease to sell hentai, or for the clueless, Japanese porn. That material will be shuffled off to a new off-branch, Ero Anime, which will “carry the full line of the erotica content.” Got it? Also, use Google because we can’t really provide a link..
