Could Remember Me Get A Sequel?
It is a well known fact that franchises in video games are hard to make. Mainly because it’s no guarantee how the game will be received, either by fans or critics. To fail means a loss of money, to succeed however could guarantee profit for a long time.
Capcom recently took a stab at creating a new franchise with last year’s original title, Remember Me. Sadly, the game got a lukewarm reception, and sales weren’t the best. However, the developer, Dontnod, has stated that a sequel could still be made, if Capcom approves it that is. In fact, the developer is already prepped to make it.
“We know what we would do for Remember Me 2,” said Dontnod creative director, Jean-Maxime Moris. “The main story has been written we know what we would add to the recipe. We know what we would fix. It’s a game that’s ready to be made, but that decision is Capcom’s to make.”
The real question here is, “Should a sequel be made?” A more finesse question is, “Does this title have the potential to do better with a sequel?” Many fans and critics have noted that the game had potential. Particularly with its memory-warping gameplay, which many said they wished was used both more, and more wisely. The world of Remember Me was also praised for it’s futuristic uniqueness, but again was underutilized.
So, with the potential there, a story apparently prepared, and the knowledge of what would need to be fixed in order to possibly make it better, does Remember Me 2 deserve a chance? Capcom may be the deciding factor, but it may the voices of fans who tip the balance.
