If you enjoyed Free League‘s Coriolis – The Third Horizon, we have some good news: the company just announced a sequel, Coriolis: The Great Dark, is now in development.
The original Coriolis was Free League‘s first original sci-fi RPG — though it started out as an independent creation. Coriolis: The Third Horizon was conceived by game designers Mattias Johnsson Haake, Mattias Lilja and Martin Grip. The game is set in a remote cluster of star systems called The Third Horizon — a place ravaged by conflicts and war, but also home to proud civilizations, both new and old. Here, the First Come colonists of old worship the Icons, while the newly arrived Zenithians pursue an aggressive imperialistic agenda through trade and military power. Free League purchased the rights to the game in 2020, and developed several expansions over the next few years.
Now it’s time for a sequel! Coriolis: The Great Dark launches you into a harsh, remote corner of space – The Lost Horizon. “Here, a fledgling human civilization who fled war tries to stake out a new life in a harsh environment while expeditions are sent out into deep space to find resources for survival and valuable artifacts,” says Free League. “As explorers in forgotten star systems, players will partake in expeditions on mighty Greatships and venture into old ruins after a long-lost civilization of God-like beings. Coriolis: The Great Dark is a game about Hope and enduring against all odds.”
Free League says the second Coriolis game will introduce new game mechanics along the lines of explorer generation, combat, exploration, and expeditions. It will use Free League’s own Year Zero Engine.
The Kickstarter campaign for Coriolis: The Great Dark will go live March 19. Both the core game and a boxed campaign set, The Flowers of Algorab, will be offered. More details on the campaign will become available when it launches next month.
