Conan O’Brien Must Go….To A New Series On Max
I’m sure you all agree that Conan O’Brien is a gift this world doesn’t deserve, and that anything he does is brilliant. No one would ever say, “Conan O’Brien must go” (except for NBC). So understand that when we utter this sentence, it’s actually the self-deprecating title of a new series he’s working on.
In Conan O’Brien Must Go, coming to the Max streaming service soon, the carrot-topped comic and former late-night host sets out to visit new friends he’s made through his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs A Fan (not a typo; we’re referring to a spinoff from his larger podcast that ends with “friend”). His journeys will take him around the country and even all across the world.
The show has a similar premise to Conan Without Borders, a series of specials released between 2015 and 2019 where, as he’s doing now, Conan zipped around the world visiting people. “My fans around the globe never asked me to visit them, so I did,” Conan quipped in a public statement.
“Conan is a national treasure…at least that’s what he keeps telling me,” adds Nina Rosenstein, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming. “It’s been an absolute dream to work with him, Jeff, and the whole Conaco team. They’re everything you’d hope for – insanely smart, ridiculously funny, and nicer than they’d probably want to admit.”
Four episodes of Conan O’Brien Must Go have been ordered so far. It’s unknown when these episodes could be appearing on Max.
