Cloak & Dagger Is Truly About The Characters
This year is going to see a lot more superhero premieres from both Marvel and DC Comics. DC has already struck with Black Lightning (which is already getting big props by fan and critics), and will be launching Krypton in March on Syfy. As for Marvel, in June, they’re going to be releasing Cloak & Dagger on Freeform. This will be the first Marvel program on the channel (though New Warriors was planned for it), and Marvel has big plans for it. But for showrunner Joe Pokaski, what makes the show different is the characters.:
“When [Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb] and I started talking about it, when we started talking with Freeform, I think the two most important things were Tandy and Tyrone,” Pokaski said. “And we wanted to make sure we understood them, first and foremost.
The most important thing was to tell the story of a young woman who gets these powers, who does the wrong thing sometimes and slowly finds herself a hero. And the story of a young black man who has a harder climb than Peter Parker, that has a harder climb than Tony Stark, and yet has to overcome and protect everybody else.”
Cloak & Dagger will arrive on June 7th.
