Ponderosa Games has introduced Catagrams, a word puzzle game that’s like Scrabble mixed with…cat. For now, it’s exclusive to mobile devices.
On each screen you’re presented with a bunch of tiles, each with one letter on them. Your task is to drag the tiles to make words, but you can only match up tiles with the same color stripe across them. However, you can use one tile more than once by intersecting words, much like a crossword puzzle. Figure out the correct words and placement, and you win.
What does this have to do with cats? Nothing on the surface, but it’s all in the theming. The graphic design of Catagrams is a chill one, decorated with loose cartoons of felines chilling in nature. You can see more cats and more scenes through completing puzzles.
“I grew up in Colorado and have always enjoyed reading, gaming, doodling, and travel,” says Tisa Foster, owner and co-founder of Ponderosa Games. “Needless to say, I’m also a word nerd and absolutely love cats! In addition to programming, I created all the art in the game – so you could say this is a true labor of love. Catagrams is all of my favorite things wrapped up in one neat, handcrafted package.”

Well, it makes its money through advertising, but there are also in-app purchases to stop that advertising and to unlock “Limitless Puzzles” mode so you can play it for more than a short time per day. You know how this works. At any rate Catagrams is cheaper than an actual cat.
