Cat Person, you would prefer to hoard cats than date a psycho

-

Cat Person is based on a short story written by Kristin Roupenian. Published by The New Yorker in December 2017, the story quickly went viral online. What made it go viral? Well, most of us have experienced a terrible date at least once in our lives – the kind of date that we reluctantly gave a chance, only to find that we couldn’t establish a connection. This often leads us to the tough decision of rejecting the person.

While some individuals gracefully accept rejection, understanding that a relationship without chemistry isn’t worth pursuing, others react to rejection with obsession. Now, the viral short story is being adapted into a psychological thriller directed by Susanna Fogel. Fogel is well-known for co-writing the underrated film “Booksmart” and is also one half of the creative team behind “The Spy Who Dumped Me.”

The film stars Emilia Jones, Nicholas Braun, and Geraldine Biswanathan in lead roles, supported by an ensemble cast including Isabella Rossellini, Fred Melamed,Liza Koshy and Hope Davis.

Despite his portrayal of a psycho on screen, Nicholas Braun is a true sweetheart in real life.

Margot encountered Robert, an older man who frequents the movie theater where she works. After being single for an extended period, she chose to give him a chance. Although Margot identifies as bisexual, offering her more dating options, she faced difficulties in securing dates. When Robert exchanged numbers with her, she decided to give him a shot despite the age difference.

While texting, Margot found herself thoroughly enjoying her interactions with Robert due to his sharp wit and sense of humor, making their conversations lively. Robert’s stories about his pet cat added to his charm. After a satisfying online dating experience, Margot took the plunge and agreed to a real date with Robert. However, she discovered that his confidence was confined to their phone conversations. In person, he proved to be awkward, shy, and uncomfortable, even displaying poor kissing skills. Despite these setbacks, she reluctantly consented to intimacy with him, only to find that their physical connection lacked any chemistry.

Recognizing the absence of potential for a healthy relationship, Margot gathered the courage to inform Robert of her decision to end their dating journey. Little did she know that this marked the beginning of a horrifying ordeal. The Robert she had believed to be a nice individual revealed a darker side that she hadn’t seen before.

“Cat Person” is set to hit theaters on October 6, 2023.
