There are a lot of games in the Castlevania series, which means Netflix has a LOT of material to mine for its anime based on it. Slowly, they’re getting there: they adapted Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse over four seasons, and they’ve started a new series based on Rondo of Blood, which made its debut last week. The streamer confirmed today they are working on a second season.
Castlevania: Nocturne takes place during 18th century France, which as any high school history class will teach you, was a time of great upheaval and conflict. There’s a revolution going on and the aristocracy is looking for anything that can help them cling to power. In the world of Castlevania, that means some of them now seem to be sporting fangs and a taste for blood. Richter enters this chaos on a mission to aid the resistance, spurned by the death of his mother to a vampire. There he meets spell-slinging Maria Renard, and the pair team up to find and stake Dracula once again.
Castlevania: Nocturne stars Edward Bluemel as Richter Belmont, Thuso Mbedu as Annette, Pixie Davies as Maria Renard, Sharon D. Clarke as Cécile Fatiman, Richard Dormer as the Abbot Emmanuel, Iain Glen as Juste Belmont, Sydney James Harcourt as Edouard, Elarica Johnson as Drolta Tzuentes, Nastassja Kinski as Tera Renard, Zahn McClarnon as Olrox, Aaron Neil as Mizrak, Franka Potente as Erzsebet Báthory and Sophie Skelton as Julia.
The series was created by showrunner Clive Bradley and producer Kevin Kolde. and brought to life by Powerhouse Animation. “Thanks to all of the Castlevania fans old and new for the amazing response and support!” Bradley and Kolde said in a joint statement. “We are excited to be able to bring you more Castlevania: Nocturne and the next chapter in the rise of Richter Belmont.”
Enjoy this teaser and start waiting. There’s currently no release date for Season 2.
