Captain America: Civil War still hasn’t hit US shores, but it’s already grossed big box office numbers internationally. Per Box Office Mojo, the Marvel Studios film has already made an estimated $200.2 million at the overseas box office. The film is already open in about 38 territories across the globe.
The reason this is the case is that the film has already been released in a number of international territories. This tends to be the case for a great deal of Marvel Studios’ films. They usually get a release in a number of international territories before their domestic release. Unfortunately, American fans are stuck rabidly awaiting the film while fans in other territories already get to enjoy the latest exploits of Captain America, Iron Man and the new Spider-Man.
By comparison, Avengers: Age of Ultron was at about $201.2 million overseas before its US release at about the same time last year (2015). That film opened with about $191 million for its opening weekend in the US. In short, this bodes very well for the opening weekend of Captain America: Civil War. So it will be interesting to see how Captain America: Civil War effectively opens the summer movie season later this week.
Captain America: Civil War hits US theaters on May 6, 2016.
