Bryan Fuller Still Wants To Do More Hannibal
Hannibal, the TV series based of the acclaimed Silence of the Lambs book and subsequent film, was a very curious thing. On one hand, fans and critics praised its very dark tone, gruesome violence (or what would be allowed for a cable show), and its interesting look at the characters that made the Hannibal films so special. Yet, there wasn’t enough fans for NBC to continue it after its third season.
Despite this, both the fans and crew of the show have wanted to continue it somehow. Whether it be via Netflix or some other avenue. One of the biggest advocates for this, showrunner Bryan Fuller, still believes the show can continue, as he said in an interview with Blumhouse’s Shock Waves podcast:
“We still hope that something can be worked out where we continue telling Hannibal Lecter stories and see ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ in a way that the book hasn’t been represented,” he said. “I think the film adaptation is a perfect film, but there’s a lot of interesting nooks and crannies in that book to explore in a television series.”
For those who think there’s nothing left to tell, Fuller reveals its quite the opposite:
“There weren’t going to be any bodies found floating in that lagoon,” he said in regards to the season 03 conclusion. “And the whole point of showing Gillian Anderson sitting at a table with two additional place settings and her leg on the table was there was a big splash and dinner guests are coming. I think, ideally for the cast, it would be as a miniseries, here and there. Let’s do six to eight episodes of that, and six to eight episodes over here. And do it as an irregular thing.”
So could Hannibal continue? It all depends on the cast, the crew, and getting a network to give them a shot. Anything is possible though. Even for a guy like Hannibal Lecter.
