Bring It On, Ghost

Bring It On, Ghost ~ Exorcism as a Part-Time Job

Bring It On, Ghost” is a 2016 K-drama series based on a webtoon “Ssawooja Gwishina” (“Let’s Fight You Ghost”), with 16 episodes, and categorized as a Romantic-Comedy (Rom-Com), Supernatural or Fantasy, Crime, and Mystery. (Some say it’s a Horror-Comedy-Youth.)

$1000 For an Exorcism

In “Bring It On, Ghost”, Park Bong Pal looks like an average university student. But he is anything but average. He can see ghosts. Not only can he see them, he can get rid of them. He charges $1000 per exorcism. And he gets the job done!  He does this as a part-time job while pursuing his studies.

One time while performing his work he was watched by a ghost. Her name was Kim Hyun Ji, although she did not know her name when they first encountered each other. She had been a wandering spirit for several years, and she also had amnesia. When she saw that Park Bong Pal had this unique talent, she was hoping he could help her “crossover”.

Bong Pal received a job offer and they were going to pay $10,000 for him to get rid of a ghost. $10,000!!! He jumped right on it. Of course, it was not true. Hyun Ji just said that so she could get him to come to her so she could ask for his help. He realized she could not pay but he also realized she could help him with his exorcisms. So they agreed to work together.

When Bong Pal is not doing his exorcisms he is a typical student attending university classes. One of his teachers is Professor Joo Hye Sung. He is not only a professor, but he is also a veterinarian, who runs an animal hospital. On the surface, he looks humble and he tries to appear to be kind. But when nobody is around close enough to hear him, he growls.

It turns out that he is a ruthless evil spirit masquerading as a human and he commits murders.  But that’s not all. There is a connection between Professor Joo Hye Sung and Bong Pal. He has been following Bong Pal closely for quite some time because there is something that he wants.

Because she has lost her memories, Hyun Ji doesn’t realize that she also has a connection to Professor Joo Hye Sung.

Several unsolved murders have occurred. Investigations have led the police to believe that the professor is the primary suspect. But gathering the proof is difficult and dangerous. As the paths of Park Bong Pal and Professor Joo Hye Sung intersect more and more, “Bring It on Ghost” opens the door to the dark supernatural realm and the evil that lurks therein.

My personal rating is 8 out of 10 stars.

I have no doubt TaecYeon fans have this Korean drama on their watchlist. It was the reason I watched it. He was his typical “Mr. Nice Guy” self; not like in “Vincenzo” where he turned out to be a bad guy.

Initially, the episodes started slow but you couldn’t help but be curious to know why a young girl like Kim Hyun Ji ended up being a wandering spirit. That got you interested. But when Professor Joo Hye Sung growled, under his breath, you knew he wasn’t your average university teacher. He may look like “Mr. Nice Guy”, but there was nothing nice about him. Even his own mother was afraid of him.

So yeah. The series had a slow start. But then as the episodes progressed, they started teasing the viewer with hints that more and more would be revealed. You had to follow through to The End.
