Beetlejuice 2 Finally Enters Development At WB
Well, the impossible has finally happened: I can report that there will be a Beetlejuice 2. Warner Bros confirmed during CinemaCon 2023 that they’ve finally greenlit a script and production can begin as early as next month. That only took (looks at watch) 35 years.
There have been countless attempts at getting a sequel to Beetlejuice off the ground and none have flown. Many have tried, all have failed. Brad Pitt of all people recently tried to do it. But only one has succeeded, and though WB won’t say who, we have a good theory. Only ONE person could have moved this needle. This is what happened, folks: Harry Belafonte met Beetlejuice after dying and convinced him to book the gig.
Belafonte entered the Waiting Room for the Recently Deceased.
Beetlejuice, still waiting for his number to be called, saw him and flipped out: “HOLY MOLEY, YOU’RE HERE NOW?? I’M YOUR BIGGEST FAN!! I’ve been haunting folks to your hits forever!”
“I’m also quite a fan of yours, Beetlejuice!” Belafonte said. “But I haven’t seen you since 1988! How come you never made a second movie?”
“Huh, you think I should?” Beetlejuice pondered. “I never thought about it before.”
“Trust me, kid!” Belafonte told him. “Everyone up above has been waiting for it forever!”
“I never knew that; I’ve been stuck down here,” Beetlejuice said. “But if YOU think it’s a good idea….then why the heck not. Just for YOU, Harry.”
Michael Keaton is expected to reprise the role, not surprising as he’s been spending a lot of time reprising other ancient roles of his (that new Flash trailer is just 90% Bat-Keaton). Tim Burton is also back in the director’s chair. No word on Winona Ryder, but it’s been whispered Jenna Ortega (Burton’s own Wednesday) might be interested in playing Lydia Deetz’s daughter.
The only question now is if they can somehow make a Beetlejuice 2 that is worth a 35-year wait. We hope so. Harry deserves it.
